Sentara Health is seeking to hire a qualified individual to join our team as Director, Underwriting.

Position Status: Full-time, Day Shift

Position Location: This position is remote.

Standard Working Hours: 8:00AM to 5:00PM (ET)

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required
• 5 years management required
• 7 years health underwriting required

Expectations for this Role:

Sentara Health is seeking a Director, Underwriting with strong FL or VA underwriting experience. The ideal candidate is a good leader with intellectual curiosity and experience in process improvement via AI. The Director will manage personnel and functions related to underwriting, including Large Group and Small Group products with various funding methods, recognizing and mitigating underwriting risks. Responsibilities include overseeing the application of rating systems and formulae, working with actuaries to maintain and update rating systems, and managing staff for employer group reporting and other financial reports. The role also involves occasional meetings with brokers and external customers. Knowledge of health insurance, HMO finances, products, and business practices is essential.
