Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation's Bryan District seeks a Director of Transportation Operations to oversee daily traffic operations, manage engineering, construction and operations for traffic signals, ITS assets and the district's safety program.

The successful candidate will provide strategic direction to district staff, supervise a team of professionals, and liaise with public officials to develop transportation solutions and ensure adherence to standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
• 7 years of experience in transportation engineering in the construction of highways, bridges or structures; experience can be substituted by graduate education.
• 3 years supervisory/managerial experience; project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
• Valid driver’s license and Professional Engineer license (PE) required; out-of-state PE may need Texas licensure within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Acts as liaison with Traffic Operations Division on traffic and traffic safety projects.
• Coordinates with district design/offices to develop transportation solutions and incident management plans.
• Oversees installation/maintenance of illumination systems, traffic signals, ITS assets, and manages related contracts.
• Develops plans, specifications and estimates for transportation management systems and ITS.
• Oversees district traffic operations and the District Highway Safety Plan.
