Job description

SUMMARY

Responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the transportation and warehouse operations across the organization. Your primary objective will be to develop and execute "World Class" strategic initiatives to optimize transportation efficiency, minimize costs, enhance operational performance, and ensure timely and accurate delivery of donated goods to our retail stores, distribution centers, and from our donation locations. Major duties include monitoring and coordinating all equipment maintenance, repair, acquisition, and disposal, DOT training and compliance for drivers and forklift operators, and movement of goods throughout the organization. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to achieve seamless integration and alignment of transportation and logistics activities within the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
  • Ensuring that all products are delivered on time, within budget, and according to specifications.
  • Managing the inventory of materials to ensure there is enough stock of all items needed to complete projects or tasks.
  • Identifying and implementing methods to increase efficiency in the supply chain process, such as developing new shipping routes or finding ways to reduce fuel consumption on delivery vehicles.
  • Coordinating shipping operations, including hiring truck drivers and scheduling deliveries.
  • Establishing relationships with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best prices for materials and services.
  • Drive a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement, ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal regulations governing transportation and logistics operations.
  • Preparing budgets for shipping operations based on projected demand for products or services.
  • Making sure that large equipment such as machinery or vehicles are delivered safely, on time, and in good condition.
  • Assisting with maintenance of facilities such as warehouses, shipping docks, and storage lots to ensure they are safe and operational.
  • Lead the selection, implementation, and maintenance of transportation management systems (TMS) and other relevant technologies to streamline operations and improve visibility. Foster a high-performance team environment by recruiting, training, mentoring, and evaluating transportation and logistics staff.

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES

  • Proven experience (8-10 years) in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management, with a significant focus on fleet management and route optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and develop a diverse team.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, generate insights, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Knowledge of plant layout, material handling, transportation scheduling, textiles and hard goods production.
  • Knowledge of production, inventory, and quality control and ability to compile and analyze data for reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of management and accounting techniques.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal instruction and or direction.
  • Ability to problem-solve department issues and make recommendations for problems and department improvement.
  • Maintain a proper and professional attitude when dealing with customers, clients and co-workers.
Education and/or Experience:

High School education or equivalent is required. Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred. A minimum of at least eight (8) to ten (10) years in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management. Prefer working experience with people who have disabilities and/or previous Goodwill experience.

Math Ability:

Level 4: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Knowledge and understanding of Global Positioning Satellite (GPS).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has supervisory responsibilities including supervision of subordinate supervisors.

Purchasing Authority:

Purchasing Authority - Directors/Controller - up to $2,500

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
  • Regularly lift and /or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Standing and sitting for long periods of time.
  • Perform work outside and inside; exposure to weather conditions, dust, dirt, electricity, noise, fumes and chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud (examples: metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment).
Language Ability:

Level 5: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication. Ability to present information to groups.

Reasoning Ability:

Level 5: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

License and Certifications:

Valid Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record and current private auto insurance policy.
