Join Our Team as a Transmission Planning Director!

Are you someone who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges and enjoys mentoring others along the way? We’re looking for a Director of Transmission Planning to join our team and lead the charge in evaluating and enhancing the performance of transmission systems.

In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of analyzing how power systems behave—whether it’s under steady-state conditions or during dynamic events. You’ll dive into studies like power flow, dynamic stability, and short circuit analysis, while also exploring areas like harmonics, economics, and power quality. Your insights will help ensure the reliability and efficiency of the bulk power system.

But this role isn’t just about technical expertise—it’s also about leadership. You’ll guide a talented team of engineers, helping them grow their skills and confidence. You’ll manage projects from start to finish, making sure they stay on track, on budget, and aligned with client expectations. And you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our department by contributing to strategic planning, resource management, and business development.

You’ll also be the kind of person who enjoys building strong relationships—whether that’s with clients, team members, or other departments. You’ll help us maintain a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

If you’re passionate about power systems, love mentoring others, and want to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or equivalent technical degree with concentration in power systems engineering and equivalent experience developed through detailed analysis of power systems
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience in transmission system modeling, analysis, and planning, including power flow and short circuit studies, volt-var studies, and distributed resource interconnection studies or wide-area power system modeling, analysis, and planning, including power flow, dynamic stability, and short circuit studies
  • Proficient in system analysis tools including, at a minimum, Siemens PTI PSSE or GE PSLF software
  • Experience in specifying and leading large-scale and complex studies and teams using advanced analytical techniques and tools
  • Experience with rules and processes of system operators (ISOs/RTOs) and studies of interconnections and transmission service
  • Knowledge and ability to assist utilities in creating long term planning studies (5/10 year) & potentially support expert witness testimony as required.
  • Understanding of existing and proposed North American (NERC/FERC) and regional reliability standards and criteria

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • PE License
