Avangrid Power Transmission & Interconnection seeks a Director to lead the development and implementation of interconnection and transmission strategies across the U.S. ISO/RTO landscape. You will manage negotiations, regulatory filings, and performance of a team of interconnection analysts.

You will coordinate with multiple internal groups and external stakeholders to optimize project timelines and commercial outcomes, ensuring compliance with FERC orders and tariff rules.

Responsibilities

• Represent Avangrid Renewables' strategy before transmission owners, ISOs/RTOs, and regulators.
• Manage internal procedures for interconnecting generators in line with policy and goals.
• Originate, negotiate and coordinate new interconnection agreements and studies with ISOs and third parties.
• Manage existing interconnection agreements for compliance and performance.
• Support executive-level activities including financing readiness and FERC filings.
• Develop relationships with transmission owners and ISO/RTOS.
• Lead meetings with stakeholders to ensure alignment and timely information exchange.
• Direct day-to-day work and manage team workload across regions.

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from:

Boston, MA - $188,000 - $235,000

Oregon - $164,000 - $205,000

Job Summary

The Director, Transmission/Interconnection is a key commercial and strategic role in Avangrid Power Transmission & Interconnection organization. Across all ISOs and RTOs in the United States, the Director will be responsible for developing and implementing interconnection and transmission strategies for energy projects; staying attuned to federal, state, ISO/RTO, and transmission owner rules for renewable generator interconnections; filing and negotiating new interconnection agreements; administering existing interconnection contracts including financial and operational terms and conditions; supporting the Senior Director in executive support activities, including financing, common facilities agreements, and FERC filings; and leading a team of Interconnection Analysts. A key part of the role will be managing relationships with ISO/RTO staff and specific third parties such as generators, utilities, public power entities, and selected large customers relative to transmission interconnections and service. Will work closely with all relevant departments at Avangrid Power by supporting development of power generation projects across the national ISO/RTO footprint.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Avangrid Power Origination, Development, Project Delivery, Asset Management and Policy groups to align interconnection and transmission strategies and spend with greenfield development projects overall schedules.
• Develop and execute interconnection and transmission strategies across all U.S. ISOs and RTOs in support of Avangrid Renewables' national business plan.
• Represent Avangrid Renewables' transmission and interconnection strategy before transmission owners, ISOs/RTOs, and regulatory stakeholders across the country.
• Manage internal work procedures for interconnecting generators consistent with established Avangrid Renewables policy and business goals.
• Originating, negotiating and coordinating all new interconnection agreements, studies with ISO's and third parties in accordance with regional tariffs and FERC orders.
• Management of existing interconnection agreements ensuring efficient and effective compliance with operational, financial and administrative terms and conditions.
• Support the Senior Director in executive-level activities, including financing readiness, common facilities agreement strategy and execution, and FERC filing support.
• Manage relationships with transmission owners and ISO/RTOS by participating in key conferences, boards, and taskforces to develop opportunities for collaboration.
• Regular collaboration meetings with key internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and timely information exchange.
• Lead and develop a team of interconnection analysts, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development to build technical capability and succession readiness.
• Set priorities, direct day-to-day work, and manage team workload and resources across regions to ensure timely, accurate execution of transmission and interconnection deliverables.
• Provide strategic direction to the team, ensuring coverage, technical support, and prioritization across all U.S. ISO/RTO regions as workload and business priorities require.
• Promote a collaborative, accountable team environment that supports knowledge sharing, cross-training, and consistent process execution.

Required Qualifications

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications

• Demonstrated expertise in negotiation of interconnection agreements with consideration of a renewable projects' overall schedule and risk profile.
• Thorough knowledge of ISO tariff procedures and schedule for generator interconnections, applicable engineering, work practices and procedures, and safety requirements.
• Knowledge of Federal, ISO, FERC and state interconnection, market and transmission development, planning, interconnection and operating procedures.
• Strong ability to understand and communicate complex issues in a simple and understandable manner verbally and in writing.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with personnel at various levels within ISO, other transmission owners, members, and generation owners.
• Project management skills.
• Demonstrate expertise in relationship/team building and key stakeholder relationship building.
• Demonstrate ability to influence and lead others.
• Ability to work effectively with all levels of the Avangrid Power organization.

Experience & Education

Prior experience managing a team in the renewable energy space.
