Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • 10+ years of experience in transaction tax compliance, with progressive leadership responsibility.
  • Deep knowledge of transaction tax compliance regulations, filing requirements, and operational best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the Transaction Tax Compliance organization, including managers, senior managers, and support teams.
  • Own compliance operations, ensuring accurate, timely filing of returns and payments in accordance with regulatory requirements and client contracts.
  • Establish and enforce compliance standards, controls, and operational guidelines to mitigate risk and ensure consistency across teams.
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, scalability, and client satisfaction.
  • Oversee client transitions from implementation into compliance production, ensuring readiness and service stability.

Position Summary

The Director, Transaction Tax Compliance provides senior leadership and strategic oversight of DMA's Transaction Tax Compliance organization. This role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, risk management, and scalable service delivery across all compliance teams. The Director partners closely with executive leadership, clients, Implementation, Quality Assurance, and Training teams to drive continuous improvement, ensure audit readiness, and develop a high-performing compliance organization that delivers consistent, accurate results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the Transaction Tax Compliance organization, including managers, senior managers, and support teams.
  • Own compliance operations, ensuring accurate, timely filing of returns and payments in accordance with regulatory requirements and client contracts.
  • Establish and enforce compliance standards, controls, and operational guidelines to mitigate risk and ensure consistency across teams.
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, scalability, and client satisfaction.
  • Oversee client transitions from implementation into compliance production, ensuring readiness and service stability.
  • Serve as senior escalation point for complex compliance issues, audit findings, and client concerns.
  • Partner with senior leadership to determine staffing models, capacity planning, and workforce strategy to meet client demand.
  • Lead talent development efforts, including performance management, coaching, succession planning, employee relations, and workforce engagement.
  • Support recruitment and hiring efforts to build and maintain a high-performing compliance organization.
  • Oversee compliance-related audit readiness and support SOC and other operational audits as required.
  • Collaborate with Practice Development and business leaders to support client discussions and compliance service positioning as needed.
  • Conduct regular leadership, management, and departmental meetings to communicate expectations, priorities, and performance.
  • Assist with business development and strategic client initiatives as requested.
  • Provide hands-on support in reviewing returns or resolving issues during peak periods when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field required; advanced degree preferred. 10+ years of experience in transaction tax compliance, with progressive leadership responsibility. Proven experience leading managers and overseeing large compliance operations.

Deep knowledge of transaction tax compliance regulations, filing requirements, and operational best practices. Strong ability to assess risk, implement controls, and drive compliance excellence. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Proven ability to build strong client relationships and influence senior stakeholders. Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to travel to client locations as needed.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work Schedule: Regular, 40 hours/week

Travel: Less than 10%
