Job summary

Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority seeks a Director of Terminal Operations & Facilities to oversee teams ensuring safe, efficient airport operations around the clock. You will supervise asset management, building maintenance, mechanics, HVAC, and related contracts, with responsibility for budgeting and stakeholder coordination.

The role requires leadership, extensive experience in airport facilities/operations, and the ability to ensure compliance with safety and security standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in aviation, business, engineering, facilities management or related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience in Airport Facilities or Operations at a medium/large hub international airport.
  • 2–4 years of supervisory experience.
  • 4–7 years of experience in Airport Facilities or Operations.
  • Valid Driver's License (Class D).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operational safety, security, and efficiency of the 24/7 airport environment.
  • Manage and guide Terminal Operations and Facilities teams and budgets.
  • Ensure inspections and maintenance are planned and executed across facilities.
  • Serve as Airport Duty Manager for coverage and incident response.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and partners per leases and agreements.
  • Develop and monitor operating and capital budgets to meet goals.
  • Ensure resources are allocated to air carriers and partners as required.

Job Summary: The Director, Terminal Operations & Facilities leads and oversees various teams in order to provide a safe and efficient airport complex for passengers, stakeholders, badge holders, visitors and airport authority employees. This position provides support and direction for Asset Management, Building Maintenance and Mechanics, Electricians, Facilities Contracts, HVAC and Terminal Operations. This position has an operational area of responsibility to include the maintenance and operation of the terminal building to include the curbside and air carrier/cargo ramp environments, parking lots, cargo and multi-use buildings as well as a limited volume of airfield assets. This position will be fully trained as an Airport Duty Manager to establish proactive coverage for the program that is charged with the operation of the airport environment on a 24/7 basis. This position will remain readily available for airport emergencies to include snow and ice removal during inclement weather.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operational oversight of a large team within Terminal Operations and Facilities to confirm the safety, security and efficiency of the 24/7 airport environment.
  • Ensures all team members are operationally ready for changes to the complex as a result of construction, the fluctuation of passenger movements, changing airline schedules and operational needs of the airport authority.
  • Confirms terminal inspections and maintenance activities (corrective and preventative) throughout campus are performed timely and safely.
  • When serving as an Airport Duty Manager: Maintains operational command for the BNA Airport campus to include the safety and security of the airfield, terminal, roadway systems, airport communication center, customer service, parking operations and rental car facilities.
  • Oversees the development and monitoring of the annual operating and capital improvement project budgets to meet departmental requirements and annual goals.
  • Ensures teams have the tools and material required to perform their job functions throughout the various unique environments at a large hub airport.
  • Provides guidance to the Terminal Operations team to ensure airport authority owned resources are being allocated to air carriers and stakeholders per the airline user lease agreement and other published documents.
  • Communicates with federal partner leaders to include the Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Administration and United States Customs and Border Protection to provide a positive airport experience.
  • Oversight of the airport's asset planning and management software and the work order system.
  • Publishes peak season forecasts of aircraft and/or passenger movements to include holiday travel seasons and special events in Middle Tennessee.
  • Attends routine construction meetings to ensure impacts to the passenger movement and customer experience are minimized.
  • Coordinates with Airport Safety to ensure the safety of personnel on campus performing regular duties as assigned.
  • Publication and enforcement of various workplace policies and procedures for the Airport Duty Managers, Facilities and Operations.
  • Management and upkeep of Irregular Operations Plans (IROPS) and the Tarmac Delay Plan.
  • Follows all safety regulations.
  • Maintains regular and on-time attendance.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Characteristics

  • Previous experience of managing a team of people in a team leader environment or as a project leader.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Administration, Business Administration, Engineering, Facilities Management or industry related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in Airport Facilities or Airport Operations at a medium or large hub international airport.
  • 2-4 years of supervisory experience within Airport Facilities or Operations.
  • 4-7 years of experience with Airport Facilities or Operations.
  • Valid Driver's License - Class D.

Preferred

  • 2-4 years of Airport Duty Manager (ADM) experience at a medium or large hub international airport.
  • Certified Member of American Association of Airport Executives.
  • Airport Security Coordinator Certification.
  • Part 107 License.
