What You Will Do

The Director, Technology (Solution Architecture) at Ascension is a leadership role responsible for delivering technological solutions across the enterprise. This role involves leading the design and implementation of complex, holistic technology solutions that align with Ascension's mission and business outcomes, particularly within the dynamic healthcare framework. The Director provides executive-level consulting and guidance to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Strategic Leadership & Vision:
    • Lead the Solution Architecture team and influence the application architecture focus across multiple business verticals and technology service horizontals.
    • Provide oversight and leadership regarding strategic direction, activities, and resources for assigned departments.
    • Engage early in strategic planning efforts to assess needs and lead key architectural, process, integration, and cost considerations from an enterprise perspective.
  • Solution Design & Implementation:
    • Oversee the strategic design and implementation of complex technology solutions that meet business requirements and align with enterprise and domain architecture guidelines.
    • Ensure the completeness of the architecture, including pertinent stakeholder requirements.
    • Drive efforts to modernize technology platforms and systems, simplify application inventory, and standardize technology solutions.
    • Lead the development of standard architecture reference models, capturing strategic goals, value drivers, KPIs, metrics, and business capabilities.
  • Collaboration & Governance:
    • Work collaboratively across the organization, including with Applications & Platforms, Data Delivery & Governance, Security, Legal, Compliance and Infrastructure teams.
    • Participate in cross-functional teams for developing and implementing new architectural patterns and standards.
    • Foster a unified point of view to inform and guide technology investment decision-making and address unnecessary technology sprawl.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Manage and provide technical leadership for a team of Solution Architects.
    • Set project teams up for success with a strong technical structure and provide guidance during deployment.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of experience in information technology, with a significant portion in architecture roles (e.g., Enterprise Architect, Solution Architect).
    • Proven leadership or management experience (3+ years preferred).
    • Healthcare provider industry experience is required.
    • Experience at a large technology products and services organization preferred.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong understanding of technology platforms and EHR solutions.
    • Expertise in multiple areas of architecture: Business, Information & Data, Application, Technology, and Security Architecture.
    • Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) phases.
    • Familiarity with architecture frameworks like TOGAF (preferred).
  • Soft Skills:
    • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and C-level stakeholders.
    • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, conflict management, and decision-making skills.
    • Ability to quickly evaluate options, unlock enterprise challenges, and recommend solutions in a diverse technology environment.
    • Ability to manage multiple work commitments and produce high-quality work products under pressure.

Education:

  • High School diploma/GED with significant experience, or Associate's/Bachelor's degree with cumulative experience required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

  • High School diploma equivalency with 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 3 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management.
