Job summary

The Milken Institute seeks a Director to support the Business and Program Development team with a focus on fundraising for the Strategic Philanthropy pillar. You will cultivate UHNW funders, lead major gifts, and build strategic partnerships to expand philanthropic programs.

Hybrid role based in Washington, DC with international travel, reporting to the EVP and collaborating across global offices. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• 10+ years of fundraising, business development, partnership building, major gifts, and/or wealth management.
• Experience building relationships with UHNW philanthropists that resulted in transformative and strategic gifts.
• Executive gravitas/executive presence to gain respect of UHNWIs and key stakeholders.
• Ability to inspire enthusiasm about the Milken Institute and its MI Philanthropy initiatives.
• Experience building funder collaboratives, partnerships, or coalitions.
• Ability to establish trust and develop strong working relationships with philanthropic partners and Milken teams.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to travel internationally and across time zones.

Responsibilities

• Craft, implement, and evaluate a holistic business development strategy for Strategic Philanthropy.
• Engage funders to understand goals and opportunities for greater impact.
• Design partnership opportunities and close/ steward major gifts for Strategic Philanthropy.
• Establish and manage relationships with key prospects and funders; coordinate Milken interactions.
• Support financial planning, communications, campaigns, and strategy evolution with Strategic Philanthropy leadership.
• Lead a team of professionals supporting proposal development, grant writing, database management, and select events.
• Ensure partners are integrated into Milken convenings and programs.
• Represent Milken at philanthropic convenings and events; expand reach across communities.
• Provide insights for developing philanthropic tools, resources, and learning communities.
