Qualifications

  • 15+ years in corporate communications, PR, or executive-level communications in Business, Fashion or Entertainment.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills; ability to work at pace.
  • Discretion, strategic thinking, and influence across media and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Thought Leadership: Develop content to position the executive as an industry expert, including op-eds, social media, and conference content.
  • Message Development: Craft narratives, speeches, captions, and presentations aligned with voice and goals.
  • Internal & External Comms: Create internal updates, Q&As, town halls, and manage external media relations.
  • Strategic Coaching: Advise on communication strategy, media training, and delivery.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build relationships with partners, journalists, and internal teams; pitch stories.
  • Media Relations: Monitor coverage and lead crisis communications and rapid responses.
  • Operations & Coordination: Manage calendars, embargoes, interviews, and track KPIs.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and highly discreet Director of Strategic Communications to lead and execute all public-facing communications for a high-profile executive in business, fashion and entertainment as a member of the Gap Inc Communications & Engagement organization and Executive Communications team. This role is responsible for shaping executive visibility and influence, managing media and stakeholder relationships, driving thoughtful thought leadership, and safeguarding reputation in a fast-paced, high-impact business environment. The ideal candidate is strategic, proactive, measured, and calm under pressure, with strong business and industry acumen and a deep understanding of how executive narratives intersect with corporate strategy. They are culturally fluent and highly knowledgeable about media dynamics across traditional, digital, and social platforms, with a demonstrated ability to position leaders as credible, authoritative voices within the business, fashion and entertainment industry.

What you’ll do
  • Thought Leadership: Developing content to establish the executive as an industry expert, including op-eds and, social media, and conference content.
  • Message Development: Crafting narratives, speeches, social captions, and presentations that align with voice and company goals.
  • Internal & External Comms: Creating internal updates, Q&As, town hall scripts, and managing external media relations or press releases.
  • Strategic Coaching: Advising the executive on communication strategy, media training, and presentation delivery.
  • Stakeholder Management: Building relationships with partners, journalists, and internal teams. Pitch stories, secure interviews, and manage press placements across print, digital, broadcast, and podcasts.
  • Media Relations: Monitor media coverage, public sentiment, and emerging issues in real time. Lead crisis communications efforts including rapid response. Advise on sensitive issues, or breaking news affecting the public figure. Coordinate messaging across teams to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Operations & Coordination: Manage press and appearance calendars, embargoes, exclusives, and media logistics. Prepare executive for interviews, appearances, and press events. Track KPIs, media impact, and publicity outcomes.
Who you are
  • Experience: 15+ years in corporate communications, PR, or executive-level communications in the Business, Fashion or Entertainment industry.
  • Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills; ability to work at pace.
  • Attributes: Speed, agility, high discretion, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence.

Salary Range: $176,500.00 - $229,400.00

Employee pay will vary based on factors such as qualifications, experience, skill level, competencies and work location. We will meet minimum wage or minimum of the pay range (whichever is higher) based on city, county and state requirements.
