Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission in Austin, TX is seeking a Director of Psychiatric Services to lead statewide psychiatric care across 11 facilities. The role involves senior clinical leadership, policy formulation, and collaboration with Medical Directors to ensure evidence-based care.

Ideal candidates have extensive psychiatric leadership experience, Texas licensure, DEA, and NPI; the position includes telework flexibility, travel, and a comprehensive state benefits package.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed (unrestricted) as a medical doctor in Texas and Board Certified or Board eligible in Psychiatry.
• Must have a current DEA registration.
• Must possess a National Provider Identifier (NPI) and enroll as a Medicaid/Medicare provider.
• At least four (4) years of experience working as a psychiatrist.
• At least four (4) years of experience working with people with psychiatric disorders.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership coordinating psychiatric treatment across state hospitals.
• Monitor trends, diagnose and treat patients, and develop policies and procedures.
• Lead SMEC as Vice Chair and oversee the six clinical subcommittees.
• Support clinical quality assurance and performance improvement programs.
• Participate in disaster response and Continuity of Operations activities as needed.
