Job summary

Hartford Public Schools seeks a Director of Specialized Programs for the Office of Special Education. This leader oversees Early Childhood, IGOAL, STEP, RISE, and educational services for detained students, ensuring compliant, high-quality programming across traditional and non-traditional settings.

The role requires strategic leadership, strong communication, and collaborative problem-solving to support students with disabilities countywide and coordinate with district partners for continuity

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in special education.
• Minimum of five years in special education settings.
• Experience implementing and monitoring compliance with federal and state requirements.
• Experience with special education data management systems (CT-SEDS or similar).
• Experience leading professional development in special education.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision and leadership for specialized education programs (Early Childhood, IGOAL, STEP, RISE) and educational programming for detained students.
• Coordinate case management and IEP implementation across detention centers and regional centers.
• Establish program expectations and service-delivery standards; monitor quality and compliance.
• Develop innovative approaches for non-traditional settings to meet student needs.
• Lead administrators and staff in complex student case management and supports.
• Build partnerships with district departments and community agencies to expand supports.
• Ensure accurate reporting and audit readiness for assigned programs.
• Prepare analyses and communications on program performance for the Executive Director.
