Job summary

Eight Sleep in Boston is seeking a Director of Clinical Research to own Eight Sleep's clinical research organization—the data backbone of the company. You will lead 10+ researchers, data scientists, and data engineers and serve as the senior physiological authority across all human studies powering our hardware, sensing, and AI/ML teams.

This is a hands-on leadership role: manage budgets, timelines, and cross-functional programs, define study criteria, review data, and help translate research

Qualifications

• PhD in physiology, neuroscience, sleep science, or related field.
• 10+ years of human research experience with startups or consumer health/hardware.
• 5+ years in people management with hiring and performance management.
• Experience with biosensing devices pursuing clinical validation.
• Strong publication record and ability to author or PI IRB studies.
• Advanced statistical fluency and power calculations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the clinical research and science organization with 10+ team members.
• Direct all human studies for hardware, sensing, and AI/ML teams from protocol to reporting.
• Apply rigorous statistical criteria to validate hardware and algorithms before launch.
• Translate research into product features and coordinate with Product, Growth, Design, and Engineering.
• Oversee scientific communications, including publications and media appearances.
• Manage budgets, vendor relations, and cross-functional program leadership.
• Drive new research collaborations aligned with the company roadmap.
