Job summary

Eight Sleep is seeking a Director of Clinical Research to own the clinical research org. You will lead a 10+ person team of researchers, data scientists, and data engineers, serving as the scientific backbone for hardware, sensing, and AI/ML initiatives.

Reporting to the VP of R&D, you will manage studies across hardware and AI/ML, guide statistical criteria, and be the public-facing science voice in publications and media. This is hands‑on leadership in a high‑growth startup.

Qualifications

• PhD in physiology, neuroscience, sleep science, or related field.
• 10+ years of human research experience, incl. startup/consumer health exposure.
• 5+ years of people management with hiring and performance reviews.
• Experience with biosensing devices or consumer health tech.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications and PI on IRB studies.
• Advanced statistical fluency and power calculations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a cross‑functional clinical research team of 10+ members.
• Direct human studies across hardware, sensing, and AI/ML teams; manage protocol development, IRB submissions, data collection and reporting.
• Apply rigorous statistical methods to validate hardware and algorithm performance before launch.
• Translate research into product features with Product, Growth, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Oversee scientific communications—blogs, white papers, publications, and media interactions.
