Job summary

DuckDuckGo, the online protection company, is seeking a Director, Site Reliability Engineering to lead reliability across large-scale deployments. You’ll work in a remote-first team, reading, writing, debugging, and deploying software, and partnering with engineers to reduce incidents and improve performance.

You’ll scale our index infrastructure, build automation for provisioning and config management, and create anti-fraud verifications that respect user privacy.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience in reliability, platform, infrastructure, or software engineering, including 4+ years leading SRE teams.
• Experience participating in a 24x7 on-call rotation for a large-scale deployment.
• Advanced programming skills enabling close partnership with software engineers to triage production issues and remediation.
• Experience leveraging cloud-native services; hands-on with Docker and Docker Compose.
• Ability to implement automation around infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
• Investigative ability to root-cause sources of instability in high-traffic systems.

Responsibilities

• Read, write, troubleshoot, and deploy software to tackle reliability challenges of large-scale deployments.
• Develop and maintain high-availability infrastructure for millions of users.
• Scale up index infrastructure to handle billions of documents.
• Create anti-fraud verifications that respect users' privacy.
• Build tools, services, alerts, and responses to identify and address reliability risks.
