Job summary

Care-For-the-Homeless (CFH) seeks a Director of Security to lead security operations in a DHS-contracted environment and report to DHS and oversight agencies. The role requires managing security staff, updating policies, and coordinating with IT and law enforcement to protect residents and staff.

The position calls for 7–10 years in security within social services, with 5 years in management, and certifications in Fire Safety (F-80).

Qualifications

  • BS/BA Degree preferred.
  • 7-10 years of security experience in a social service setting, with a local or federal law enforcement agency or equivalent.
  • 5 years of security management experience.
  • Significant knowledge of relevant security policies, standards, guidelines, and processes including HR, Fire & Life Safety, protection and security operations.
  • Must have Fire Safety and F-80 certification.
  • Working knowledge of physical and technical security systems, threat assessment, emergency response, and crisis management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe, Google Docs, and Gmail.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly update security policies and procedures, including evacuation plans, security training manuals, disaster recovery, and contingency plans.
  • Align physical security program with the Shelter’s strategic security plan to mitigate risks.
  • Direct and train security staff; conduct regular assessments and drills of security systems and processes.
  • Oversee 24/7 security operations and respond to after-hours issues and breaches.
  • Oversee security technology projects (surveillance, access control, alarms, communications).
  • Research and deploy effective security management techniques and solutions.
  • Leverage technology to streamline processes in partnership with IT.
  • Conduct site risk assessments and develop risk mitigation plans with Shelter leadership.
  • Produce comprehensive security review and audit reports.
  • Engage in continuous improvement and cost-effective security services.
  • Assist with special events through security planning and site assessments.
  • Contribute to security training and awareness programs.
  • Maintain contacts with local and federal law enforcement and DHS.

Job description

CFH is seeking a Director of Security which operates under contract with the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and, as a contract agency, has reporting responsibilities to DHS and is subject to inspections and audits by DHS, the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the Coalition for the Homeless of New York City.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Regularly update security policies or procedures,to includeevacuation plans, security operations manuals, security training manuals, disaster recovery, and contingency plans with consideration to current and emerging risks to residents,staffand assets.
  • Establish procedural documentation and ensure that the physical security program is continually aligned with the Shelter’s strategic security plan to mitigate risks and support business operations.
  • Manage and direct all security staff and ensure that they are appropriately trained and informed on the most recent security plans, threats,trendsand related security techniques. Implement regular assessments and drills on physical security systems,proceduresand processes.
  • Managea 24/7 security operations and be available to respond toafter hourcalls or emails for physical security related issues,emergenciesand/or breaches.Mustsolve all security complaintsin a timely manner.
  • Manage the implementation, service,repairand/or updates of security technology projects such as video surveillance, access control systems, security platforms, alarm systems, two-way communications, travel safetyplatformsand other security equipment.
  • Research, recommend, and deploy effective and innovative security management techniques and solutions to secure and safeguard shelter offices.
  • Continually look for opportunities toleveragetechnology to streamline processes and improve security, while working in close partnership withITdepartment.
  • Conduct physical security site risk assessments of all offices andpropertytoidentifyvulnerabilities and develop risk mitigation strategies, while partnering with the Shelter Director and COO.
  • Provide comprehensive andaccuratereports to properly document and communicate results of security reviews and audits.
  • Initiate continuous improvement activities to ensure quality and cost-effective physical security services.
  • Assist withCFHspecial eventsby conducting security advances, preparing site assessments and security planning.
  • Assistin the development and delivery of security training and awareness programs.
  • Develop andmaintaincontactswith local and federal law enforcement andDepartmentof Homeless Services (DHS) to stay apprised of guidelines, policies, emerging threats,tacticsand techniques.
  • Perform other security related duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL / TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • BS/BADegreepreferred
  • 7- 10 years of security experience in a social service setting,with a local or federal law enforcement agency, or equivalent. A combination of this is preferred.
  • 5 years of security management experience.
  • Significant knowledge of relevant security policies, standards, guidelines, and processes toinclude;HR, Fire & Life Safety,protectionand security operations.
  • Must have Fire Safety and F-80 certification.
  • Working knowledge of processes related to securitysuch as:physical and technical security systems technology, threat vulnerability, site assessments, emergencyresponseand crisis management.
  • Proficiencyin MicrosoftOffice, Adobe, Google Docs, and Gmail.
