Job summary

University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science is seeking a Director for Maryland Sea Grant. This role provides leadership, vision, and administrative oversight for the MDSG program, coordinating with Maryland universities, state/federal partners, and NOAA Sea Grant colleagues.

The Director will lead program strategy, manage budgets across multiple funding sources, and foster a collaborative, inclusive work environment that advances coastal science and education.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a relevant field such as aquatic/marine science, coastal environmental policy, or related discipline.
• Strong leadership and strategic planning experience within academic, governmental, or nonprofit settings.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement MDSG’s strategic vision and long-term goals.
• Secure and manage external funding to ensure fiscal sustainability and growth.
• Oversee research, education, fellowship, extension, and outreach programs.
• Manage partnerships with universities, state and federal agencies, and NGOs.
• Ensure compliance with Sea Grant network requirements and reporting obligations.
