Job summary

Drug Hunter is seeking a Director, Scientific Data & Informatics to own the integrity and evolution of our scientific data across the knowledge platform. You will lead the data team within the Technical organization and bridge scientists and engineers to align data strategy with product goals.

You will define representations, standards, and curation processes for chemistry and biology data, oversee ontology and entity resolution, and collaborate with Engineering and Science to advance

Qualifications

• PhD in cheminformatics, bioinformatics, computational biology, structural biology, or a related quantitative life-science field.
• 10+ years working with scientific data in drug discovery, biotech, or life science data/informatics companies, including 3+ years leading people or a data function
• Working cheminformatics literacy (molecular representations, structure standardization, substructure/similarity search concepts, RDKit or similar tools)
• Fluency in bioinformatics, with a deep working knowledge of biological databases and ontologies, target and pathway biology, and gene/protein identifier mapping
• Strong data modeling skills and hands-on proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with data pipelines and modern data tooling
• Understanding of the drug discovery process from target to clinic, and ability to converse fluently with medicinal chemists and biologists
• Clear communicator who can move seamlessly between scientific details and engineering/product trade-offs

Responsibilities

• Lead the scientific data team and own data integrity across chem/bio domains.
• Define data strategy for acquisition, representation, and normalization of data across sources.
• Establish standards, vocabularies, QA rules, and tooling for scalable data curation.
• Oversee extraction of structured information from unstructured content and linking to canonical entities.
• Own ontology strategy unifying compounds, targets, diseases, and other concepts across sources.
• Evaluate data sources for coverage, quality, licensing, and update characteristics.
• Work with Science and Engineering to translate science decisions into data models and processes.
• Ensure data quality, provenance, validation, and freshness across platforms.
