Job description

Reporting to the VP of Accounting & SEC Reporting, the Director, Revenue Recognition Accounting serves as the Company's lead expert on complex technical accounting matters and revenue recognition. The ideal candidate has a proven track record influencing decisions, navigating complex transactions, and supporting a large public company in a technology or industrial sector — backed by deep ASC 606 expertise and strong business judgment. This role partners with cross-functional and executive leaders to support strategic transactions, evaluate commercial arrangements, and ensure U.S. GAAP compliance.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical accounting leadership across business combinations, divestitures, joint ventures, strategic investments, restructuring activities, impairments, inventory accounting, and other complex accounting matters.
  • Advise business and executive leaders on contract structuring, order booking, pricing strategies, and other commercial arrangements, including related revenue, margin, and profitability impacts.
  • Serve as the Company's lead technical authority on ASC 606 revenue recognition matters and complex contract accounting issues.
  • Oversee the preparation of technical accounting position papers and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors on revenue and technical accounting matters.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of technical accounting professionals while assessing future organizational and talent needs.
  • Lead evaluations of significant accounting judgments and estimates, including SSP analyses, cost-to-cost arrangements, variable consideration, and other complex revenue recognition matters.
  • Support strategic transactions and new business initiatives by assessing accounting implications and recommending compliant, practical solutions.
  • Lead accounting reviews of significant customer and supplier contracts, partnering with Legal, Sales, Tax, Operations, and Finance to evaluate accounting implications and support commercial decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain revenue recognition policies, accounting positions, contract review frameworks, internal controls, and scalable accounting processes.

Education & Experience

  • Recognized subject matter expertise in ASC 606 Revenue Recognition and complex contract accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence senior stakeholders, and manage cross-functional initiatives in a complex global organization.
  • 10-15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Big Four public accounting and/or public-company technical accounting leadership roles.
  • Strong technical accounting research, documentation, communication, and external auditor management skills.
  • CPA required.
  • Significant experience reviewing and accounting for complex arrangements in technology, manufacturing, or related service industries.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated success partnering directly with Legal, Sales, and executive leadership on complex contract negotiations and transaction structuring.

Skills & Other Requirements

  • Deep experience with complex revenue arrangements, including development, milestone-based, licensing, and service contracts.
  • Company is based in Northern California and prefers local candidates, though non-local candidates with the necessary experience will be considered.
  • Proven ability to influence contract negotiations and structure transactions while ensuring U.S. GAAP compliance.
  • Public company experience in a technology, industrial, or manufacturing sector.
  • Experience leading technical accounting evaluations related to acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, restructuring activities, and other strategic transactions.
  • Experience supporting multinational operations, complex commercial arrangements, and supply chain environments.
  • Strong technical accounting research, documentation, and position paper preparation skills.
