The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $153,000 - $191,000.

Job Summary:

The Director Regulatory Affairs is the primary regulatory relationship and contact for the State and the Operating company that it is based in. This role is primarily in regulatory proceedings, leading negotiations, and litigating energy-regulated matters/issues as necessary. This team needs to partner across the jurisdiction to work with Government Affairs and docket management and the Energy strategy team to share regulatory opportunities within their territories.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, create, and provide regulatory affairs guidance for regulatory pleadings, testimony, and other filings. Presents positions orally and in writing before regulatory agencies.

  • Actively participates in regulatory proceedings with input from Regulatory Economics, Business Area Leads, and Legal including Rate Cases, financial dockets, and enforcement matters as appropriate.

  • Provides guidance and consultation on regulatory accounting and rate tariff interpretation.

  • Oversees regulatory compliance, administration, tariffs, and terms and conditions of service.

  • Monitors ongoing regulatory proceedings within the applicable jurisdiction.

  • Coordinates with Regulatory Planning & Economics, Control, and Investment Planning on the long-term financial outlook.

  • Point of Contact for interactions with Regulatory agency Staff on significant issues and proceedings bringing along whoever they need.

  • Weekly Commission agendas and meetings, in-person attendance, and report out on each Commission meeting with a summary of each matter discussed.

  • Attendance at NARUC, NECPUC, and MACRUC.

  • Attendance at Operating Company President’s meetings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; postgraduate MBA or JD preferred.

  • 12+ years working in a regulated utility environment; experience interacting with state regulators strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of regulatory landscape.

  • Excellent Leadership, communication (oral and written), critical thinking, and technical writing.

  • Must have strategic mindset and ability.
