Job Description

We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Director, Recovery & Resolution Planningto join our Global Payments & Trade team. This role is located in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Resiliency Lead is responsible for the resiliency of products and services delivered across multiple client platforms within an EC member’s organization, fostering a “Resiliency is Commercial” culture across business and technology teams.

This role plays a strategic leadership role in embedding resiliency into product design, investment decisions, operational readiness, disruption response, and regulatory engagement. The role also leads the coordination, analysis, drafting, governance, and submission of recovery and resolution plans aligned to the GP&T Platform, GP&T LOB Hub, GP&T Commercial team and our legal entity. As a key subject matter expert, the Director applies deep knowledge of BNY’s services, operations, legal entities, and resiliency framework to ensure plans are cohesive, regulator-responsive, operationally credible, and aligned to enterprise resiliency objectives.

In this role, You'll make an impact in the following ways:

The Resiliency Leadership

  • Lead strategic resiliency planning across client platforms, incorporating operational and technology resiliency considerations into product design and investment decisions.
  • Communicate and implement the Enterprise Resiliency Strategy across platform and LOB Hub and align those resiliency objectives with the relevant Enterprise Platform Owners.
  • Manage the foundational elements of resiliency for identified Critical Business Services (CBSs) and Other Business Services (OBSs) using the BNY Business Services Framework (BSF) and taxonomy to identify and prioritize the functions and assets required to deliver end-to-end client services.
  • Coordinate preparedness and response activities for business disruptions, incidents, and events, including:
    • Business Continuity Plans (BCP)
    • Business Impact Analysis (BIA)
    • Incident & Crisis Management (ICM) playbooks
    • Recovery playbooks
    • Post-event analysis, lessons learned, and remediation actions
  • Serve as the primary point of coordination during incidents or crises, including activation of resiliency strategies based on impact assessment.
  • Lead cross-platform testing of resiliency capabilities, including Disaster Recovery, Cyber Recovery, and Data Center Rotation Exercises, and communicate results to senior leadership and governing bodies as needed.
  • Act as a primary coordination point for resiliency-related engagement with regulators, external auditors, clients, internal control teams, and Legal Entity Management.
  • Serve as a key point of contact and approver for Recovery and Resolution Plans aligned to the applicable line of business and/or legal entity.
  • If applicable, lead the Resiliency SDG team within the Platform and/or Hub.
Recovery and resolution planning

  • Lead the analyses, drafting, coordination, and project management required for the development and submission of the Bank’s recovery and resolution plans.
  • Apply broad knowledge of the Bank’s services and operations across legal entities to ensure plans are cohesive and responsive to regulatory requirements.
  • In partnership with senior leaders, determine the strategic approach to plan development, governance, stress testing scenarios, and execution.
  • Manage the overall project plan for consolidated recovery and resolution planning, while also leading project plans for strategically important topic areas, businesses, entities, or functions.
  • Establish project objectives, timelines, stakeholder engagement plans, and resource requirements, ensuring timely delivery aligned with regulatory expectations.
  • Conduct planning meetings and drive cooperation and accountability across stakeholder groups and senior leaders.
  • Compile and assess submissions and data from stakeholders, ensuring they are applicable, complete, and responsive to requests and requirements.
  • Challenge insufficient or non-responsive submissions and coach stakeholders to improve quality, completeness, and regulatory responsiveness.
  • Guide activities related to complex areas such as capital analysis, liquidity analysis, governance, and business process modeling.
  • Synthesize and analyze submitted data, including financial statements, financial ratios, and operational workflows, to determine stress triggers and conduct stress testing and scenario analysis.
  • Evaluate results, identify gaps, and develop conclusions that inform appropriate plan responses and remediation actions.
  • Develop and refine methods and techniques used in testing, modeling, and plan development within areas of expertise such as capital, liquidity, or governance.
  • Ensure technical guidance and planning standards are consistent across business units and legal entities as appropriate.
  • Draft and finalize plans for assigned business units, legal entities, or functional areas based on data analysis and stress testing outcomes.
  • Confirm plans with senior leaders, resolve areas of non-consensus, and review the broader portfolio of plans for consistency and responsiveness.
  • Ensure that organizational or operational changes result in timely updates to relevant recovery and resolution plans.
  • Contribute to the achievement of recovery and resolution planning objectives and, where applicable, hold accountability for the plans of strategically significant businesses, legal entities, or the Bank’s broader portfolio of plans.

Leadership and influence

  • Provide informal leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to less experienced team members and peers.
  • Assign and coordinate tasks related to delivery of the overall recovery and resolution planning agenda.
  • Influence leaders and stakeholders across business, technology, and control functions to drive alignment, accountability, and high-quality outcomes.
  • Exercise sound judgment and constructive challenge to ensure plans are operationally credible and regulator-ready.
  • Recognize the significance of complete and responsive submissions, given that insufficient planning could contribute to heightened capital, leverage, or liquidity requirements that constrain the Bank’s growth, activities, and operations.

To be successful in the role, we're seeking the following:
