Job summary

Roadtex Transportation, a part of Echo Global Logistics, seeks a Director of Roadtex Special Projects to lead initiatives across warehouse, transportation, and logistics operations.

In this role you will partner with cross-functional teams to improve service, reduce costs, and ensure projects stay on time and within budget.

Travel to sites is required; you will develop SOPs, supervise staff, and drive continuous improvement across the network.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering, Operations Management or related field preferred.
  • Eight or more years in warehouse, distribution, transportation, logistics, supply chain, or 3PL operations.
  • Five or more years of leadership experience leading projects, improvement efforts, or field teams.

Job description

Roadtex Transportation has become a leader in the nationwide LTL industry, specializing in transporting time and temperature-sensitive products. We handle refrigerated and LTL needs by leveraging no sailing schedules, our nationwide network of 32 strategically placed temperature-controlled facilities, our state-of-the-art tracking, and our specialized equipment and warehousing capabilities. In 2022, Roadtex was acquired by Echo Global Logistics. The acquisition brings a truckload brokerage and expanded transportation management solutions to Roadtex's customers while providing Echo with our national warehouse footprint and advanced temperature-controlled transportation solutions.

Position Overview

The Director, Roadtex Special Projects (Warehouse & Transportation) leads projects that improve warehouse, transportation, and logistics operations. This role partners with key teams to improve service, reduce costs, solve problems, and support growth while keeping projects practical and on track.

Key Responsibilities
Special Projects & Strategic Execution
  • Lead key projects from planning through completion.
  • Turn business needs and operational issues into clear project plans.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to complete projects safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Provide updates, recommendations, and decision support to senior leaders.
Warehouse, Distribution & Transportation Operations
  • Review warehouse, distribution, and transportation operations to find issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Help improve workflows, staffing plans, standard work, equipment use, and space planning.
  • Act as the liaison between warehouse and transportation teams to improve efficiency, handoffs, freight flow, labor planning, and issue resolution.
  • Support labor planning to make sure staffing levels match volume, service needs, and operational priorities.
  • Help manage line haul needs by reviewing schedules, capacity, freight movement, service performance, and cost opportunities.
  • Lead or support new site openings, facility changes, client implementations, turnaround efforts, and transportation improvements.
Continuous Improvement, Process Governance & Change Management
  • Lead improvement efforts using data, problem-solving, and feedback from the field.
  • Create and improve SOPs, daily routines, communication tools, and performance processes.
  • Track results to make sure changes improve safety, quality, productivity, cost, service, and customer experience.
  • Support change by aligning stakeholders, communicating clearly, and following up after changes are made.
Client, Carrier & Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Serve as an operational partner for internal teams, customers, carriers, warehouse partners, and third-party providers.
  • Keep warehouse, transportation, customer, and support teams aligned on priorities, gaps, and next steps.
  • Support client implementations, service recovery, renewals, growth efforts, and operational solutions.
  • Partner with Sales, Client Experience, Legal, Safety, HR, IT, Engineering, Procurement, and field operations to support execution.
  • Communicate clearly during high-visibility projects and escalations.
Leadership & Talent Development
  • As needed, assist the Sr. Director of Operations with day-to-day guidance for service center managers.
  • Help ensure teams follow operational efficiencies, standard work, and performance expectations.
  • Drive accountability through clear expectations, follow-up, and oversight.
  • Share best practices and help teams adopt improved ways of working.
  • Model safety, service, teamwork, continuous improvement, and ownership.
Financial, Labor & Performance Management
  • Review operational and financial performance, including productivity, overtime, labor planning, line haul performance, cost, capacity, equipment use, service, claims, and project results.
  • Work with Finance and Operations to build business cases, track savings, and identify performance gaps.
  • Create reports and summaries that turn data into clear action plans.
  • Support budget planning, capital requests, and resource needs for key projects.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
  • Eight or more years of experience in warehouse, distribution, transportation, logistics, supply chain, or 3PL operations.
  • Five or more years of leadership experience, including leading projects, improvement efforts, or field teams.
  • Experience with warehouse and transportation systems, reporting, and KPI tracking.
  • Experience in temperature-controlled, food-grade, retail, e-commerce, LTL, truckload, dedicated, brokerage, parcel, or multi-client logistics environments preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of warehouse and transportation operations, freight flow, labor planning, safety, inventory controls, and service performance.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, timelines, stakeholders, and deliverables.
  • Ability to use data to find issues, recommend solutions, and measure results.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence and work well with field leaders, senior leaders, customers, carriers, and support teams.
  • Good judgment, urgency, and the ability to lead through change and complex operational issues.

Key Performance Indicators

Projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget. Warehouse and transportation productivity, service, and cost performance improve. Recurring operational issues, service failures, claims, and process gaps are reduced. Teams follow standard work, SOPs, systems, and field routines. Project updates are clear, timely, and accurate. Customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders provide positive feedback on project execution.

Work Environment & Travel

This role works in office, warehouse, distribution, terminal, yard, and customer-facing environments. Travel required for site visits, client implementations, field reviews, project rollouts, and operational escalations. The role may require walking warehouse or terminal floors, using standard office equipment, and working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
