Job summary

W-Industries is seeking a Director of Quality to lead and unify the Quality Management System across all facilities in the United States. You will establish standardized processes, drive audits and continuous improvement, and oversee NCRs, KPIs, and competency development for Quality teams.

The role requires extensive experience in ISO 9001, QA governance, and cross-functional collaboration with PMO, Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain.

Description

The director of Quality serves as the strategic leader responsible for establishing, standardizing, and governing a unified corporate Quality Management System (QMS) across all W-Industries facilities, with each facility part of that QMS. This role ensures consistent quality performance, workforce competency, operational readiness, and compliance with ISO 9001, UL Certs, ASME, AISC, CSIA, TDLR and industry requirements.

The director provides oversight across multiple locations, drives continuous improvement, ensures product and service conformity, and demonstrates measurable impact to project execution efficiency through quality KPIs, training programs, equipment readiness, and NCR performance.

Requirements
  • Establish, implement, and maintain a unified corporate Quality Management System (QMS) aligned with ISO 9001 requirements across all facilities, with each facility part of that QMS and able to have its own annex.
  • Define and enforce standardized quality processes, procedures, forms, templates, and governance controls while managing approved site-specific variations, including initiatives such as uniform NCR processes and consolidating ISO programs across business units.
  • Develop and execute the corporate Quality strategy, roadmap, objectives, and communication plans supporting operational excellence and business growth.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Quality Managers and quality teams across multiple manufacturing and service locations.
  • Optimize staffing levels, workload distribution, and cross-site resource sharing to ensure effective quality support.
  • Conduct regular site visits, Gemba walks, and operational reviews to verify compliance, performance, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Own and govern the enterprise Nonconformance Report (NCR) process, including reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, corrective actions, verification, and closure.
  • Analyze and communication NCR trends, aging, recurrence rates, and corrective action effectiveness to operational and executive leadership.
  • Develop and maintain the corporate Competency Management Program and Skills Matrix covering all quality-related functions.
  • Lead the transition from uncontrolled documentation practices to fully digital, controlled, and traceable quality documentation systems.
  • Implement and improve electronic QMS platforms, NCR management systems, and digital inspection tools to enhance consistency and traceability.
  • Manage enterprise calibration and measurement traceability programs to maintain regulatory and contractual compliance.
  • Standardize inspection methodologies, acceptance criteria, test procedures, punch lists, and quality verification practices across all facilities.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute the annual Internal Audit Program to verify compliance with quality system requirements and organizational objectives.
  • Lead preparation and readiness activities for ISO, customer, supplier, and regulatory audits.
  • Ensure audit findings, observations, and nonconformances are addressed through timely and effective corrective actions.
  • Develop, manage, and standardize enterprise Quality Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across all business locations.
  • Monitor and report quality metrics including NCR rates, NCR recurrence, Rework Hours, Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ/PONC), Calibration Compliance, and Skills Matrix Completion.
  • Prepare and present quarterly Quality Performance Reports, trends, and improvement initiatives to executive leadership and monthly revision to the director of the PMO.
  • Collaborate with PMO, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Fabrication/Assembly, and Field Service teams to identify, mitigate, and eliminate quality-related risks.
  • Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement through leadership engagement, communication, training, and employee development.
  • Facilitate Kaizen events, process improvement initiatives, quality campaigns, and operational excellence programs.
  • Establish and maintain the corporate Quality Risk and Opportunity Management framework in compliance with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Ensure quality risks and opportunities are proactively identified, assessed, prioritized, monitored, and incorporated into business objectives and management reviews.
  • Collaborate with Executive Leadership to evaluate quality impacts associated with strategic initiatives, facility expansions, organizational changes, new technologies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Govern the Management of Change (MOC) process for all quality-related changes affecting personnel, procedures, systems, equipment, customer requirements, or the Quality Management System.
  • Ensure all quality-related changes are formally evaluated, approved, communicated, implemented, and verified for effectiveness prior to closure.
  • Provide regular Quality Risk, Opportunity, and Change Management reporting to executive leadership and management review teams.
  • Govern enterprise-wide utilization, allocation, and deployment of Quality personnel to ensure effective support of operational and quality objectives.
  • Review and challenge facility-level Quality resource utilization plans, staffing models, and workload distribution reports.
  • Ensure Quality personnel maintain target utilization on value-added quality activities (e.g., inspections, FAT, NCR, document control, calibration, training, and compliance); address resource imbalances across sites and recommend staffing adjustments to support business growth and quality objectives.
Required Skills & Competencies

  • Extensive knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements and implementation.
  • Expertise in Quality Management Systems (QMS), quality governance, and enterprise quality strategy deployment.
  • Strong understanding of auditing methodologies, corrective actions, preventive actions, and compliance management.
  • Knowledge of calibration systems, measurement traceability, inspection processes, testing methodologies, and product acceptance criteria.
  • Experience managing external audits, customer audits, regulatory audits, and certification programs.
  • Advanced Root Cause Analysis (RCA) capabilities including 5 Why, Fishbone, Kepner-Tregoe, and corrective action methodologies.
  • Proven ability to identify systemic issues, implement sustainable solutions, and reduce recurring nonconformances.
  • Experience facilitating Lean, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of project execution, FAT processes, inspection systems, and product release controls.
  • Experience supporting cross-functional teams including Engineering, Operations, PMO, Supply Chain, Production, and Field Service.
  • Ability to develop and manage KPIs, scorecards, dashboards, and executive reports.
  • Experience analyzing NCR trends, First Pass Yield (FPY), Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ/PONC), resource utilization, and operational performance metrics.
  • Strong data-driven decision-making and performance improvement.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, customers, auditors, regulatory bodies, and operational teams.
  • Strong prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and build alignment across business units and facilities.
Required Experience & Education
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive Quality leadership experience.
  • 5+ years managing multi-site quality operations.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Manager (CMQ/OE), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Lead Auditor, or equivalent certifications preferred.
  • Experience within industrial manufacturing, electrical systems, controls, automation
  • UL 508A, EPC, or project-based manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Experience with NQA-1 or other Nuclear Standards a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Occasional visits to manufacturing or job sites may require standing, walking, and climbing.
