The Director, US Public Affairs, will lead our efforts to engage with government entities at the local, state, and federal levels in the United States. This role is critical for developing and implementing strategies that advocate our interests, shape policy, and foster relationships with key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the business, political, policy, and regulatory landscape surrounding pharmaceuticals (radiopharmaceuticals), be able to build strong relationships with key stakeholders, and possess the ability to communicate complex scientific and policy issues effectively to internal and external Telix audiences.
Key Accountabilities
- Strategic Advocacy:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive US government affairs strategy aligned with the company's goals and global government affairs strategy.
- Identify and prioritize key political and policy issues that impact the organization and its stakeholders.
- Work with a cross-functional team including legal, regulatory, marketing, market access, patient advocacy, and communications to identify key issues and develop strategies.
- Manage the Telix political action committee (PAC) and define objectives such as supporting candidates, influencing legislation, or increasing awareness on key issues.
- Develop a budget for the PAC, outlining contributions, expenses, and fundraising targets, including employee contribution processes.
- Legislative Monitoring
- Track relevant legislation and regulatory developments at all government levels using our public policy platform and external sources, leveraging relationships with Congressional and Administration staff.
- Analyze potential impacts of policy changes on the organization.
- Prepare briefings for executive leadership and employees.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, government agencies, industry associations, patient advocacy groups, and other stakeholders.
- Represent the company at legislative hearings, industry events, fundraisers, and public forums.
- Communication
- Craft and disseminate position papers, policy briefs, and other materials to communicate the company’s positions.
- Prepare presentations for internal and external audiences, including senior leadership and board members.
- Coalition Building
- Collaborate with trade associations, healthcare providers, research organizations, and patient groups to build coalitions supporting shared interests.
- Coordinate grassroots initiatives to mobilize support for key issues among customers and employees.
- Compliance And Reporting
- Ensure compliance with lobbying laws and regulations at all levels.
- Prepare reports on government affairs activities and outcomes for senior management.
- Maintain PAC compliance with legal requirements.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years experience in government affairs, legislative affairs, or public policy, with knowledge in health and life sciences.
- 7+ years as a government affairs specialist or lobbyist, with a successful track record in the health and life sciences industry.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in advocacy efforts.
- Strong understanding of the legislative process and experience working with Congressional offices.
- Deep knowledge of pharmaceutical industry regulations, including FDA and CMS.
- Familiarity with issues like drug pricing, market access, clinical trials, and patient advocacy.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to represent the company credibly in high-stakes meetings.
- Experience in radiopharmaceuticals is a plus.
