Job summary

James Madison University seeks a Counselor Educator to lead the Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.A./Ed.S. program as Director, in a full-time, 10-month, tenure-track role beginning August 2027. Rank available from advanced Assistant Professor to Professor.

The successful candidate will oversee CACREP-accredited programs, guide curriculum, supervise faculty, and mentor master’s students while advancing scholarly activity and service to the university.

Qualifications

• Experience with clinical mental health counseling practice, supervision and teaching.
• Licensed Professional Counselor with Virginia licensure within two years of start date.
• Documented success teaching/supervising in graduate programs.
• Interest in program leadership and mentoring master’s students.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a strategic plan for the program.
• Ensure CACREP standards compliance.
• Collaborate with clinical coordinator, CACREP liaison and other program directors.
• Meet research expectations per tenure/promotion policies.
• Teach four core counseling courses annually; engage in scholarship; provide departmental and university service.
