Qualifications

What you'll do:

The Director, Product Technology for Preferred and Small Business Banking leads technology product strategy and delivery for key banking capabilities. This role partners across business lines and Technology to deliver solutions that support client experience, operational efficiency, and strategic growth.

Preferred and Small Business Banking supports branch locations, virtual client service, small business banking, online business digital sales, title and escrow banking, and political banking. This leader helps advance the team's technology objectives by equipping employees with tools and solutions that improve service delivery and support business growth.

This role oversees the technology product lifecycle, including strategy, requirements, development, testing, deployment, and application support. The Director partners with business executives to identify technology gaps, build roadmaps, and deliver scalable solutions for commercial and small business clients.

The Director provides strategic leadership in defining technology solutions, translating business needs into product strategies, and ensuring solutions meet short- and long-term performance expectations. This role collaborates with Product, Service, Sales, and IT partners to advance digital and API capabilities, strengthen client interactions, support revenue growth, and maintain an operationally sound team.

The ideal candidate has strong technology, process, and financial services leadership experience; deep knowledge of banking systems and integrations with ERP or accounting platforms; and the ability to develop and execute plans that improve service, efficiency, and business outcomes. Strong leadership, analytical, communication, and presentation skills are essential to manage complex initiatives and collaborate effectively across stakeholders. This role is based in a Western Alliance corporate office and primarily manages in-person employees across Southwest locations.

• Lead technology product strategy and execution for Preferred and Small Business Banking, ensuring solutions support client experience, operational efficiency, risk discipline, and business growth.

• Partner with divisional executives, business leaders, and Technology partners to identify needs, define priorities, and translate business objectives into scalable product roadmaps and delivery plans.

• Oversee the product lifecycle for client-facing and employee-enabling technology, including requirements, development, testing, implementation, adoption, and ongoing support.

• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of subject matter experts, including hiring, coaching, performance management, training, and succession planning.

• Establish clear team accountabilities, performance measures, and operating routines, including KPIs, KRIs, service levels, issue management, and escalation practices.

• Guide delivery of technical implementations and integrations, including ERP and accounting platform connectivity, file transfers, SFTP, automation, digital capabilities, and other client service solutions.

• Maintain strong knowledge of Western Alliance Bank's deposit, lending, treasury management, contact center, core, ancillary, and integration capabilities to inform product direction and business recommendations.

• Drive process improvement, operational discipline, and transformation initiatives that improve employee and client experiences while strengthening execution, controls, and accountability.

• Support risk mitigation, audit readiness, procedural quality control, and adherence to Bank policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

• Monitor financial services, banking technology, and contact center trends to identify opportunities that enhance service delivery, revenue growth, and the Western Alliance client experience.

What you'll need:

• 8+ years of related experience leading complex technical teams or commercial banking sales/service teams.

• 8+ years or more years in a bank and/or FI delivering digital product and service capabilities as a service to the organization; leading vendor and technical enablement and client onboarding, managing change control and change management, business process improvement, and problem/incident management

• High School Diploma required; bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or other relevant field from a four-year college or university recommended. Master's degree in business, accounting, finance, or similar is preferred.

• Strong leadership, coaching and team management abilities

• Expert knowledge of technical processes and solutions related to bank core deposit and treasury management systems; along with expertise in generally available ERP and/or accounting platforms.

• Advanced knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services.

• Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.

• Advanced project management and organizational skills; ability to create momentum, foster organizational change, and work with other members of senior management.

• Advanced Experience advising clients and internal partners on recommended solutions.

• Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.

• Occasional travel required.
