Job summary

SCOR in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Project Manager/Owner Underwriting Automation to translate underwriting strategy into actionable requirements, rules, and user stories.

You will bridge clients, underwriters, product owners, technology teams, and development partners to ensure solutions are well-defined and prioritized.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years experience with Automation Accelerated Underwriting programs.
  • 3+ years of Agile leadership experience.

Job Description

This role supports underwriting automation and innovation initiatives by translating business objectives, client needs, and underwriting intent into clear requirements, business rules, user stories, and implementation plans. It also provides Agile leadership, backlog governance, stakeholder coordination, and strategic planning to improve automation capabilities, operational efficiency, data utilization, and team delivery effectiveness.

The Project Manager/Owner Underwriting Automation is responsible for translating underwriting strategy and client needs into actionable business requirements, rules, user stories, and delivery plans. The role serves as a bridge between clients, underwriters, product owners, technology teams, and development partners to ensure automation solutions are well-defined, prioritized, implemented effectively, and aligned with business objectives. The position also provides Agile leadership, managing planning ceremonies, backlog readiness, prioritization, documentation standards, progress tracking, risk escalation, and continuous improvement for delivery teams.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning and delivery of underwriting automation initiatives that support business objectives, operational efficiency, and client needs.
  • Partner with clients, underwriters, product owners, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate underwriting intent into detailed business rules, configuration requirements, and user stories Lead discovery and requirements gathering sessions to understand underwriting processes, business objectives, data needs, dependencies, and implementation priorities.
  • Serve as a client-facing and cross-functional liaison by facilitating workshops, documenting decisions, communicating priorities, and providing implementation progress updates.
  • Coordinate multiple concurrent workstreams, balance client commitments, strategic initiatives, and product enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain business requirements, process documentation, decision records, and other project-related materials.
  • Lead Agile planning meetings and related team ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Daily Standups, Quarterly Planning, and prioritization discussions.
  • Prepare and maintain the product and project backlog, ensuring work is clearly defined, appropriately prioritized, and ready for development.
  • Facilitate discussions to define scope, assumptions, dependencies, constraints, acceptance criteria, and expected business outcomes.
  • Drive initiatives that improve automation capabilities, data utilization, underwriting decision quality, configurator usability, and operational efficiency.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across internal teams, external development partners, and client organizations.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent
  • FLMI preferred
  • 3-5 years experience with Automation Accelerated Underwriting programs
  • 3+ years of Agile leadership experience
  • Exposure to and and experience with rules based, automated underwriting systems, including development and enhancement of rules, processes and data sources.
  • Experience in evaluating and analyzing vendor solutions including predictive scoring tools, rules, and evolving data sources
  • High level of independence and self-direction in addition to collaboration, correlation and attention to detail.
  • Strong client facing interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and initiative skills

Pay Range for roles performed in CLT & KC: $109,000-$133,500 base salary per year. Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, role and performance. The range listed is just one component of SCOR's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long term incentives. In addition, we provide a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement saving plan, paid holidays and paid time off.
