Job summary

Director, Power Building & Justice (HIP)

Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) is a transnational network of grantmakers committed to strengthening Latino communities across the Americas. HIP connects and convenes funders, nonprofits, researchers, and other leaders to identify emerging needs among Latinos as well as best practices for responsive and effective funding of social change. HIP pioneers new philanthropic models by leading collaborative initiatives and has provided grants and training to help build the capacity of more than 1,000 organizations and leaders.

For nearly four decades, HIP has nurtured community strength and leadership to shift the balance of power to those historically under-resourced, supporting opportunities for amplifying impact, agency, and the ability to be dynamic actors in the creation of their own narrative. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Power Building & Justice (PB&J) Director will be responsible for leading the strategic creation and implementation of HIP’s PB&J program, which includes grantmaking, grantee and funder engagement, and promoting HIP’s policy priorities. The Director will work closely with team members to impact, integrate, and amplify HIP’s existing programmatic priorities (i.e., gender equity, migration and forced displacement, small business investment, narrative change) to mobilize communities to build leadership, power, and agency. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for leading the growth of HIP’s Multi Racial Democracy Building (MRDB) campaign designed to invest in and offer critical support to Latinx frontline organizations to ensure the participation of Latinx communities at every level of political and civic life, doing so in close alliance with other BIPOC communities to increase and shift power for our collective communities.

The PB&J Director will serve as a critical bridge between grassroots leaders, policy makers/elected officials, and the philanthropic community, and requires substantive experience and relationships in a combination of some or most of these areas: civic engagement, movement building, grassroots organizing, membership building, philanthropy and policy analysis. The PB&J Director will collaborate closely with team members including the Associate Director of Policy, the Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships, as well as programs and communications staff to oversee HIP’s campaign priorities. At the outset, the PB&J Director will focus primarily on a U.S.-based MRDB campaign and other related racial equity-focused programmatic initiatives. In the following months, the PB&J Director may also be called on to provide input for our Mexico-based democracy building and racial equity strategy, and programming implementation for work in Mexico and other Latin American locations.
