ORIX Corporation USA’s (OCU) Portfolio Management team is seeking to hire a Director for its New York office. The Portfolio Management team reports to the Chief Credit Officer and is responsible for ongoing review and monitoring of OCU’s investments across its Private Credit and Real Estate businesses. Its key function is to proactively identify credit migration and risk mitigation strategies in coordination with OCU’s Origination teams.

Purpose And Job Summary

ORIX Corporation USA’s (OCU) Portfolio Management team is seeking to hire a Director for its New York office. The Portfolio Management team reports to the Chief Credit Officer and is responsible for ongoing review and monitoring of OCU’s investments across its Private Credit and Real Estate businesses. Its key function is to proactively identify credit migration and risk mitigation strategies in coordination with OCU’s Origination teams.

The Director’s overall objective will be to lead the analysis of OCU’s portfolio exposure across a number of its diverse lines of business. The Director will be responsible for all quarterly review responsibilities related to their portfolio including recommendation of appropriate investment risk ratings through the ongoing review and analysis of financial statements, the completion of periodic assessments of such statements, liquidity and valuation analysis, covenant compliance and testing, monitoring of news articles and other early warning alerts, quarterly investment reporting, and the preparation of Watch-List materials. On an ongoing basis, the Director will work closely with the Originations and Underwriting teams to actively manage the dialogue with the underlying portfolio companies and assist in the understanding of financial performance. In parallel, the Director will collaborate with other stakeholders on various strategic initiatives related to portfolio management, including identification of portfolio themes, enhancements to data quality, senior management reporting, process improvements, credit research papers, and the improvement of policies and procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor portfolio KPIs and escalate underperformers to Senior Portfolio Management staff, communicate and co-ordinate risk mitigation strategies as risk(s) evolve. Specific duties include:
    • Analyze KPIs in financials, business, and industry to determine general financial health of company/investment.
    • Spread and track financial performance against lender’s case, management plan, and financial covenants. Identify material deviations from plan.
    • Prepare financial models and sensitivity analyses.
    • Create, understand, and challenge valuation analyses.
    • Recommend changes to risk ratings, credit reserves, and accrual status.
    • Evaluate amendments, waivers, and/or collateral modification requests. Make recommendations and facilitate approvals.
    • Prepare discussion materials for internal reviews and present analysis to OCU Senior Management.
  • Independently engage in frequent dialogue with Line of Business teams and portfolio company management to understand asset performance and proactively manage the portfolio.
  • Prepare portfolio management presentations alongside senior Portfolio Management colleagues for OCU management that include analytics on expected portfolio performance and areas of potential risk and/or opportunity.
  • Establish and leverage cross-functional partnerships and network with key internal and external constituencies.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and engage in strategic thinking related to portfolio positioning.
  • Assist the Head of Portfolio Management on various projects, which may focus on, but are not limited to, data quality, monitoring process, or governance; and
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.
This position has frequent contact with all levels of employees and OCU Senior Management. In addition, this role may interact with outside business partners, vendors, consultants, and other office visitors.

Education, Skills, And Experience

  • 10+ years of underwriting, portfolio management and/or credit review experience at an investment bank, large commercial bank or middle-market direct lender across a variety of asset types such as first lien loans, second lien loans, mezzanine, asset-based loans, and/or structured credit.
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related subject; completion or progress towards an MBA or CFA preferred.
  • Completion of a formal credit training program is a plus.
  • Experience in growth lending, municipal lending, structured credit, real estate, work-out or distressed debt situations is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of credit, including an advanced understanding of legal documentation.
  • Strong accounting, valuation, and financial modeling skills.
  • Superior analytical, organizational, and written and verbal skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Motivated, inquisitive, self-starter, and team player; strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Ability to learn quickly and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a high-performance team.

Annual base salary gross: $200,000 - $240,000 (NY only). The base salary range represents the estimated low and high end of the ORIX USA’s salary for this position. Actual base salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. The base pay is one component of ORIX USA’s total compensation package for employees.
