Job summary

Generate Capital in San Francisco seeks a Director of Portfolio Finance to lead the debt, tax equity, and incentive monetization for its Community Solar portfolio. You will own forecasting, modeling, and financing milestones across construction debt, permanent debt, and related structures.

You will manage a small team, collaborate with Investments, Project Delivery, and Finance, and design scalable processes that improve capital efficiency, cash generation, and portfolio returns.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant experience across structured finance, project finance, portfolio finance, financial asset management, or adjacent disciplines; renewable energy or sustainable infrastructure experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of community solar programs and requirements is a major plus.
• Hands-on and advanced financial modeling capability across infrastructure assets, tax equity, and debt instruments, with a strong understanding of both cash and GAAP outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Own the debt side of the Community Solar portfolio end to end: lead construction and permanent financing milestone execution with bank lenders, own lender relationships, size facilities, and manage exposure limits.
• Lead tax equity execution across active funds in partnership with the Manager who owns it: annual capital commitments, fundings, ITC monetization and insurance, support term sheet negotiations.
• Own portfolio financial forecasts and models across assets, debt, and tax equity; establish and maintain consistent assumptions and controls.
• Direct transaction and financing supporting workstreams: data rooms, independent engineer, title and real estate reconciliations, regulatory filings and approvals.
• Maintain a live feedback loop with Investments and Structured Finance to base pricing and structures on portfolio experience.
• Partner with Finance on cash movements, liquidity planning, incentive accruals, and portfolio definitions.
• Establish functional KPIs, data-quality standards and reporting to track financing progress and portfolio returns.
• Deliver against the function’s KPIs, e.g. tax equity funded within 30-60 days after milestones and construction financing closed within 60 days of notice to proceed.
• Institutionalize processes and handoffs to scale the function and align stakeholders.
• Lead and develop the team and succession planning to reduce reliance on contractors.
• Own escalation and drive decisions when issues span multiple teams.
