Job description

Company Overview

At Mitsubishi Power, we're not just building better clean energy technologies; we're architecting a better future. Our team is boldly redefining power generation to accelerate the world's energy transition. We operate as one team, pushing toward our vision of the future. We value problem solvers, prioritize collaboration, and support each other in an inclusive culture built on accountability and authenticity by demonstrating our values: Safety, Family, Innovative, Inclusive, Accountable & Courageous. Together, we’re building the future we all aspire to - making net zero a reality.

Role Overview

The Director of PGS Business Operations & Capabilities is a business leader within PGS, accountable for the operational performance and strength of the capabilities through which PGS sells, delivers, and engineers. Positioned within the business and working with IT as a delivery partner, this leadership role is responsible for the people, data, tools, and ways of working that enable the organization to secure new business, deliver service, and execute engineering operations. Success is measured by improvements in outcomes such as quote-to-order cycle time, outage execution, service margin, engineering change turnaround, and customer satisfaction. The Director evaluates each capability from two complementary perspectives. The operational perspective addresses how well work is performed across commercial, service, and customer delivery functions. The strategic perspective addresses the organization's long-term direction and the capabilities that direction will require. Drawing on these perspectives, the Director identifies capability gaps, determines which capabilities should be developed, strengthened, or retired, and selects the most appropriate means of closing each gap: organization and role changes, skills and training, process improvement, or technology such as an enhancement to an existing solution, an integration, a commercial product, custom development, or an engineering solution. The Director leads a team responsible for PGS-dedicated capabilities and for representing PGS within shared enterprise solutions, and establishes a prioritized, funded capability roadmap aligned to measurable operational, engineering, and strategic outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Be accountable for the operational performance of PGS commercial, service, and engineering capabilities, including opportunity-to-order, outage planning-to-execution, engineering change, and parts fulfillment, measured by cycle time, cost, quality, and customer impact
  • Serve as the business leader accountable for the results PGS capabilities deliver, with a working understanding of how the business operates and the cross-functional dependencies that affect performance
  • Define capability KPIs and run a regular operating review with PGS functional leaders to track performance and drive corrective action
  • Lead root-cause analysis and improvement efforts to close performance gaps, in partnership with Operational Excellence and Business Process Owners
  • Ensure capabilities meet the needs of the field, including service operations, outage services, service parts, and engineering, across US/Canada and LATAM/Caribbean
  • Ensure capabilities remain aligned with business objectives, compliance requirements, and operational best practices
  • Lead team to identify and close capability and performance gaps, inefficiencies, and risks in partnership with business stakeholders
  • Act as the primary business counterpart for PGS functional leaders on capability matters, with IT as a delivery partner
  • Define and maintain the long-term capability vision for PGS, aligned with the organization's business strategy, growth objectives, and the broader energy transition
  • Translate business strategy into a clear view of the capabilities PGS must develop, strengthen, or retire to remain competitive over a three-to-five-year horizon
  • Anticipate emerging market, customer, and technology trends, including digital, data, and AI opportunities, and assess their implications for PGS capabilities
  • Advise senior leadership on capability priorities, investment trade-offs, and the sequencing of strategic initiatives
  • Build business cases for capability investments, evaluate business impact and ROI, and own the realization of benefits after delivery
  • Ensure that capability decisions are made with the whole enterprise in view, balancing near-term operational needs against long-term strategic value
  • Own the prioritization and approval of capability investments and enhancement requests, making final go/no-go decisions within PGS scope
  • Set business requirements and priorities for IT and delivery partners, and work closely with IT, Business Integration, and Business Process Owners (BPOs) to ensure alignment across interconnected processes and systems
  • Represent PGS business priorities in enterprise governance forums, steering committees, and planning sessions
  • Lead change management, training, and adoption for capability changes affecting end users, working with BPOs to keep business rules and process documentation current
  • Support audit, compliance, and risk management activities related to PGS capabilities
Requirements
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in service operations, outage or field services, commercial operations, or engineering operations, including 5+ years leading teams in a P&L-accountable or KPI-driven environment
  • Proven accountability for business outcomes and operational results across multiple functions
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering measurable operational improvements, such as cycle time, cost, margin, quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Experience improving both business execution (commercial, service, or operations) and engineering execution (product data, engineering change, PLM-enabled processes)
  • Experience shaping and governing business systems (CRM, PLM, ERP) from the business side
  • Track record of leading cross-functional change and adoption in a matrixed organization
  • Experience managing budgets, business cases, and vendor relationships
  • Strong executive communication skills, with the ability to align business, engineering, and IT leaders around shared priorities
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field
