Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Direct and accountable for safe, patient-centered perioperative care.

Hours: 7:00am to 3:00pm with start and end variability based on needs and responsibilities

The Director, Perioperative Services is responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, patient centered care through the perioperative continuum. The Director, Perioperative Services is responsible for the operation of the department and the measurement, assessment and continuous improvement of the department's performance.

The Director, Perioperative Services is the leader of the team accountable for 24 hour management of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery, management of human, fiscal and other resources, development of personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, strategic planning and the fostering of inter-disciplinary collaborative relationships within selected units(s) or area(s) of responsibility and health care institution as a whole.

The Director, Perioperative Services is responsible for the operational and financial management of the Perioperative Services department including responsibility for daily management and long term tactical planning and systems changes needed to optimize operational and financial efficiencies.

The position requires the individual to successfully demonstrate strong planning, organizational, critical thinking, influencing and computer skills.

Key functional areas of responsibility will include Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, PACU, ASU, MPU (GI and DAC), DPU, PST, Central Sterile, Perioperative Scheduling and equipment and supply selection, procurement and processing.

Responsibilities
EDUCATION
  • Graduate of accredited professional nursing program
  • Current RN Licensure in the State of New York
  • Bachelors Degree in nursing required
  • MSN or equivalent required OR current enrollment in a MSN or equivalent program with completion within two (2) years
Experience
  • Five (5) or more years of staff nurse experience in the OR required
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience in the daily leadership, supervision and operation of clinical nursing practice in an OR setting
  • Critical Care experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to work productively with all levels of unit personnel, as well as physicians, families, visitors and to manage the activities of a diverse group of professional, nonprofessional and clerical employees
  • Demonstrated leadership skills (people management, relationship-building, inspiring, problem-solving, facilitating, and executing)
  • Strong ability to influence customers, change behaviors and attain operational goals and objectives
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills with all levels of associates and management
  • Planning skills to develop goals and objectives in concert with those of the hospital and implements action plans to meet those goals
  • Analytical ability to identify opportunities for improvements as well as positive problems resolution
  • Excellent critical thinking/analysis and creative problem solving skills
  • Able to demonstrate strong cost and operational efficiency analysis skills
  • Teaching abilities to promote optimum orientation and continuing education of staff
  • Budgeting skills to control fiscal operations of selected unit(s) and/or area(s) of responsibility and to identify and explain variances
  • Has current knowledge of health care trends and issues and relates same to hospital and work area environment
  • Excellent computer skills utilizing Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint software applications
