Job summary

Cardea Health, a nonprofit serving vulnerable populations in Oakland, seeks a Director of Employee Relations & HR Compliance. This hybrid role leads employee relations, compliance, investigations, and performance governance, reporting to the CEO with cross-functional collaboration.

You will guide compensation, leave, and regulation adherence while partnering with People & Culture Operations to reduce risk and strengthen organizational practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HR, business administration, public administration, or a related field.
• Five years of progressively responsible experience in employee relations, HR compliance, or related leadership functions.
• Working knowledge of California employment law (Alameda County and San Francisco County).
• Experience conducting workplace investigations and managing complex employee relations matters.
• Ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the organization's employee relations program.
• Supervise and develop the Employee Relations Manager.
• Partner with executive leadership to address complex employee concerns and workplace issues.
• Serve as escalation point for high-risk employee relations matters.
• Promote consistency and fairness in employment policies and practices.
• Monitor trends and recommend proactive solutions to address organizational risk.
• Oversee performance management framework and corrective actions.
• Develop tools and training for effective performance management.
• Lead and oversee workplace investigations with the ER team.
• Ensure compliant documentation and corrective action plans.
• Coordinate with legal counsel on complex investigations.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
