Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe is seeking a Director of Patient Safety to lead risk management, safety initiatives, and regulatory compliance. The role partners with Quality Management, Administration, and clinical leadership to advance patient safety and environment of care across the hospital.

The ideal candidate brings an RN license, CPPS certification, and at least five years of healthcare experience to guide policy development, incident investigations, and performance improvement efforts

Qualifications

  • RN required and licensed in good standing
  • CPPS certification required or actively pursued
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required
  • Minimum of five years healthcare experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists in training and evaluating staff on the Code of Conduct and hospital risk policies.
  • Identifies and reports ethics/compliance issues and takes corrective action as needed.
  • Helps establish and maintain the hospital-wide Risk Management Program in collaboration with leadership.
  • Evaluates correspondence from attorneys, patients, and outside sources for potential claims.
  • Informs Risk Management leadership promptly of potential claims.
  • Reviews requests for medical records to ensure proper authorization.
  • Maintains Risk Management Notification System and distributes risk-related data.
  • Coordinates risk management and environment of care educational programs for staff.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives related to risk management and safety.
  • Works with physicians and staff to address risk issues and ensure patient safety.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and adheres to privacy standards.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
CPPS (Certified Professional in Patient Safety)

Job Summary And Qualifications

Under the general direction of the Risk Management Director, the Risk Management Analyst has full-time assigned responsibility in the area of risk management. The Risk Management Analyst functions with responsibilities for interfacing with Quality Management staff, staff involved in all aspects of safety management, medical records and billing office staff in conducting and coordinating risk management functions.

What you will do in the role:
  • Assists in training and evaluating staff on the overall Code of Conduct and specific policies and procedures that effect the area of Risk Management.
  • If an ethics and compliance issue(s) is identified, takes the appropriate action to correct and/or report any violation that they are aware of in the department and/or the facility.
  • Assists with establishment and maintenance of the hospital-wide Risk Management Program, in collaboration with the Director of Risk Management, Administration, the Environment of Care Committee, and the Quality Management Council.
  • Evaluates correspondence from attorneys, patients and other outside sources for claims potential.
  • Promptly informs Risk Management Director of any potential claims identified.
  • Evaluates requests and subpoenas for medical records for proper authorization.
  • Maintains Risk Management Notification System.
  • Collects, evaluates and distributes relevant data concerning patient and non-patient notifications.
  • Assists in coordinating and facilitating completion of premium credit initiatives as defined by Corporate and Division.
  • Investigates reports of product/equipment problems to determine appropriate response (i.e., voluntary reporting to manufacturer, mandatory reporting to FDA, etc.).
  • Assists in review and assessment of written standards within the hospital pertaining to risk management and environment of care.
  • Coordinates for provision of risk management and environment of care educational programs for all personnel within the hospital in collaboration with Department Directors/Managers and the Education Department.
  • Assists in development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of risk management and environment of care.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives as appropriate to risk management functions.
  • Actively participates on assigned committees in order to ensure safety and risk issues being identified and addressed.
  • Responsible and accountable for consistently maintaining confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information accessed.
  • Utilizes written and verbal communication, analytical, numerical, and organizational skills with a high degree of effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Coordinates and conducts an investigation of all risks involving actual or potential injuries to patients, visitors, staff and physicians. Investigates all other known incidents that lead to financial loss, including professional, general, property and automobile liability.
  • Maintains current knowledge of hospital administrative and departmental standards and procedures that relate to risk management and environment of care.
  • Maintains current knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to risk management and environment of care.
  • Maintains awareness of risk management responsibilities within the hospital system and maintenance of required files for risk management and environment of care.
  • Prepares material for committees as assigned and reports follow-up and tracking from committees. Collects information and documentation in response to interrogators and requests for production.
  • Coordinates chart copying in liability situation.
  • Communicates effectively to coordinate assessment of preventive loss control with all hospital departments and medical staff.
  • Continues professional growth through the use of in-service educational programs, seminars, professional associations, and other self-directed learning activities related to the practice of risk management and environmental safety.
  • Actively participates in the hospital-wide Performance Improvement Program with activities related to risk management and environmental safety.
  • Communicates effectively with physicians to accomplish Medical Staff Committee responsibilities, and as appropriate regarding risk management activities.
  • Actively participates in appropriate medical staff and hospital committees.
  • Coordinates interviews for hospital staff with investigation and attorneys.
  • Consistently provides outstanding service to all patients, physicians, fellow employees, and guests.
  • Displays initiative to see processes through to completion and offers assistance without being asked.
  • Consistently responds to requests in a timely manner.
  • Maintains awareness of own limitations and seeks guidance from appropriate personnel when needed.

What qualifications you will need:
