Overview
The Director - Operational Excellence is responsible for implementing and facilitating a culture of continuous improvement, while managing the development and implementation of the Operational Excellence program and driving key business-wide initiatives. This position will assist the SOFIE Leadership Team to ensure that continuous improvement and best practices are part of SOFIE’s culture and will concentrate on accelerating the organization’s capacity optimization efforts. The individual in this position will mentor managers and process improvement resources, assist in delivering Continuous Improvement training, and run process improvement projects in support of the organization’s Operational Excellence transformation.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Analyze SOFIE’s business data to identify opportunities for capacity optimization and cost reduction
- Assist Leadership in selection and prioritization of Operational Excellence projects that maximize value for SOFIE
- Work, in an influential role, with multiple business functions to generate project ideas and drive the Operational Excellence deployment plan
- Directly support Operational Excellence initiatives; Manage project implementation of optimization of current operations model throughout the SOFIE network
- Support Leadership in development and implementation of optimization tools for Operational Excellence (analysis tools, software, incentive strategies, communications, etc.)
- Provide, thorough studies of existing conditions, to achieve increased production speed and/or eliminate product defects and waste
- Lead the development, implementation and overall management of a formal capacity optimization / cost reduction program that incorporates continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma and Lean)
- Act as a change agent to drive Continuous Improvement mindset with the implementation of process optimization projects
- Manage direct and/or matrix reports to drive business results
- Support the development of continuous improvement objectives
- Assist leadership in establishing baseline and target metrics for key processes
- Make recommendations and be accountable for project impact
- Ensure operational excellence scorecard is maintained and results are communicated monthly
- Review monthly financial results with the Finance department for accuracy, specifically as they relate to continuous improvement projects; Assure that predicted savings are tracked, validated, reported and applied to the organization’s operating results
- Assist in identifying and implementing Statistical Process Control in applicable areas
- Provide training for process improvement methods (e.g. Lean and Six Sigma) for all functional groups
- Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Pharmacy preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in continuous improvement methods (e.g. Lean Manufacturing and Six-Sigma) with continuous improvement leadership responsibilities; Six Sigma Black Belt Certification preferred
- Supervisory and/or large scale project team leadership experience within a healthcare environment, preferably across multiple geographic locations with operational emphasis
- Highly efficient with MS Office Suite and project analysis software (i.e. MS Project, etc.); understand Statistical based software, Simulation Software, and Quality tools (i.e., Minitab, Value Stream Mapping, SPC ) for analyzing process changes or improvements
- Ability think strategically and view the business from a general management standpoint; Detail-oriented but also able to see the big picture; Prioritize and simultaneously work multiple assignments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; team player with customer focus
- High level of energy, ability to work in a fast paced environment and ability to handle conflict
- Possess the aptitude to exercise independent judgment on immediate situations with cost, policy, and reputation ramifications.
