Responsibilities

  • Manage existing Workforce Development and Continuing Education Programs
  • In concert with academic departments, identify opportunities for and initiate new programs and partnerships with local employers, unions, and government organizations; collaborate with employers and community stakeholders to implement workforce training.
  • Lead the development and implement the strategic plan for Workforce Development and Continuing Education.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of sponsored degree and non-degree programs.
  • Conduct need analysis and seek funding through grants and other sources.
  • Analyze current and future trends in labor market.
  • Write proposals for funding for new programs (city, state, federal, private) based on the labor market analysis. Seek funding opportunities through grants and contracts.
  • Develop MOU and training contracts.
  • Develop customized courses for non-traditional learners. Facilitate curriculum development and implementation.
  • Ensure program compliance with the CUNY policies.
  • Manage and supervise staff; interview and hire faculty and staff for special programs. Plan and schedule courses and faculty assignments.
  • Create program budgets; prepare billing and fee transfers.
  • Prepare analytical and assessment reports for management as needed.
  • Serve on college wide committees.
  • May supervise staff.

Director of Workforce and Continuing Education Programs

York College, founded in 1966, is a center of academic excellence in the heart of Jamaica, Queens. POSITION DETAILS

York’s academic programs are housed in three schools: The School of Arts & Sciences, The School of Business and Information Systems, and The School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs. Over sixty baccalaureate programs from across a variety of disciplines, including accounting, aviation management, business, computer science, journalism, social work, teacher education, a dual BS/MS degree in Occupational Therapy, and one of the top-ranked nursing programs in New York State, provide students with opportunities to study liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs. The College also offers six graduate programs: Aviation Management, Clinical Trials Management, Pharmaceutical Science and Business, Physician Assistant, Social Work and Nursing Education.

Located in Queens, the most ethnically diverse county in New York State, the College enrolls 7,000 students from over 95 nations. Nine out of ten students are members of a racial/ethnic minority group, and more than half of undergraduates are the first in their families to pursue higher education.

The College’s 50-acre campus encompasses seven buildings, including science and computer labs, music and television studios, a Performing Arts Center, and a Health and Physical Education Center. Reporting to the Executive Chief of Staff, the Director of Workforce/ Continuing Education Programs is responsible for ensuring the success of existing sponsored cohort programs and finding new projects. The Director collaborates and works closely with various internal administrative and academic departments, as well as external partners such as employers, Labor Unions, hospitals, agencies and community-based organizations.

Major responsibilities include:
  • Manage existing Workforce Development and Continuing Education Programs

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Oversees a broad range of fiscal and program responsibilities for Continuing Education and related external programs

  • Provides leadership for the development and implementation of new programs of study and ensures the coordination and implementation of program components.

  • Plans, markets and implements College programs in Continuing Education, developing overall programs and overseeing development of content, budgets, and marketing strategies.

  • Develops funding proposals; solicits grant information and provides leadership and guidance in partnering with community and governmental agencies.

  • Provide fiscal oversight and evaluation; develops strategic and operating plans; reports progress and results to management.

  • Oversees a comprehensive marketing and public information program.

  • Manages staff of the Continuing Education office.

  • Represents Continuing Education within the College community and externally.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

$117,971 - $130,755 - Salary commensurate with education and experience.
