Job summary

Capac Community School District seeks a Director of School Transportation and Operations to lead student transportation, custodial services, and building maintenance. You will ensure safe, well-maintained facilities and reliable transportation, coordinating with district leadership, staff, families, and external agencies.

The role reports to the Superintendent and requires CDL credentials, supervisory experience, and a strong focus on budgeting, safety, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; postsecondary education in business, operations, transportation management, or related field preferred.
• Experience in student transportation, fleet management, school operations, facilities, or supervisory work preferred.
• Knowledge of Michigan pupil transportation requirements, school bus safety practices, employee supervision, and regs or ability to acquire quickly.
• Strong organizational, budgeting, communication, problem-solving, and technology skills; respond to urgent operational needs.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record; CDL credentials required.
• Background checks and employment screenings completed as required.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, supervise, train, evaluate, and support transportation and operations personnel; coordinate certifications and development.
• Oversee preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, recordkeeping, and replacement planning for vehicles and equipment.
• Respond to incidents, concerns, weather disruptions, emergencies; communicate with stakeholders.
• Develop and monitor budgets, purchasing, contracts, inventories, and expenditures; identify cost-effective improvements.
• Coordinate with administrators on activities, field trips, athletics transportation, safety planning, and needs.
• Oversee custodial and building maintenance operations, staffing, schedules, performance, and service quality.
• Develop and monitor preventive maintenance programs for buildings and systems; coordinate repairs.
• Inspect facilities to identify safety and maintenance issues; prioritize actions and document follow-through.
• Manage work orders, emergencies, contracted services, vendor performance, and improvement projects.
• Support compliance with safety requirements; maintain inspection and maintenance records.
