Job summary

The University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT) seeks a Director of Training Assessments to lead applied research programs that improve service member readiness, performance, and training effectiveness. The role combines scientific leadership with practical tool development for Navy, Marine Corps, and DoW customers.

Ideal candidates will have a distinguished record in leading multidisciplinary teams, securing funding, and translating research into actionable

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent research leadership in relevant fields.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible research leadership experience.
• Experience managing multi-year, multi-partner programs.
• Proven ability to secure externally funded research.

Responsibilities

• Lead a portfolio of applied research programs focused on training assessments and operational decision-making.
• Define technical strategy and priorities with sponsors and collaborators.
• Develop and manage proposals and funded projects for DoW and related sponsors.
• Direct multidisciplinary teams through all phases of project execution.
• Design and oversee studies involving physiological, cognitive, and behavioral data.
• Translate findings into usable products, training interventions, and transition plans.
• Establish relationships with Navy, Marine Corps, and DoW communities.
• Produce peer-reviewed publications, reports, and briefings.
• Mentor junior staff and foster an interdisciplinary, mission-focused environment.
