Job summary

The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey is seeking a Director of Technology & Data to lead CHSofNJ's technology infrastructure, data systems, and reporting functions from the Main Office in Trenton, NJ. You will ensure a secure, reliable technology environment to support service delivery, funder accountability, and data-driven decision making.

  • Experience managing technology vendors and external service providers.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience leading technology, reporting, or data management initiatives.
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, human services, or child welfare settings is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee CHSofNJ's technology environment, including hardware, software, telecommunications, and third-party platforms.
  • Direct the agency's relationship with its MSP, establishing priorities and monitoring performance.
  • Lead technology projects, system upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Ensure a secure technology environment aligned with regulatory, cybersecurity, and privacy requirements.
  • HIPAA Security Officer functions after probationary period (COO transition).
  • Administer the agency's EHR and related data systems; establish data quality standards.
  • Produce accurate reporting for funders, licensing bodies, and leadership; develop dashboards and tools.
  • Translate data into actionable information to support decision-making and learning.
  • Collaborate with leadership to strengthen data-driven culture and governance.
  • Support organizational performance metrics and ongoing tech and data improvements.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 To $105,000.00 Annually

Position Summary

The Director of Technology & Data serves as the operational leader of CHSofNJ's technology infrastructure, data systems, and reporting functions. The position is responsible for ensuring the organization's technology environment is secure, reliable, and positioned to support effective service delivery, funder accountability, organizational learning, and data-driven decision-making.

Working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the Director leads technology strategy, vendor management, EHR administration, data governance, reporting, cybersecurity, and system improvement initiatives. This role is responsible for building the systems, standards, and infrastructure that enable CHSofNJ to operate effectively today while positioning the organization for future growth and innovation.

While the COO establishes organizational priorities and strategic direction, the Director of Technology & Data leads the execution of CHSofNJ's technology, data, and reporting functions.

  • Direct the agency's relationship with its managed service provider (MSP), establishing priorities, monitoring performance, and serving as the primary escalation point.
  • Lead technology projects, system upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Ensure the organization maintains a secure technology environment aligned with regulatory, cybersecurity, and privacy requirements.
  • Assume responsibility for HIPAA Security Officer functions following successful completion of the probationary period (the COO holds this designation until the transition).

Data Management & Reporting

  • Serve as administrator of the agency's electronic health record (EHR) and related data systems.
  • Establish and maintain standards for data quality, system usage, and data governance.
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting for funders, licensing bodies, executive leadership, and the Board of Trustees.
  • Develop reporting tools, dashboards, and processes that improve accessibility and consistency of organizational data.
  • Translate data into meaningful information that supports decision-making and organizational learning.
  • Partner with leadership to strengthen CHSofNJ's data-driven culture.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data collection, reporting, workflow efficiency, and organizational performance.
  • Support the development and monitoring of meaningful organizational and program-level performance metrics.
  • Promote technology solutions that improve service delivery, compliance, reporting, and operational effectiveness.
  • Partner with the COO to shape and implement the agency's approach to responsible AI adoption, providing recommendations on tools, use cases, governance, and safeguards.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise and develop the IT Technician.
  • Establish clear priorities, goals, and performance expectations.
  • Foster collaboration among technology, quality improvement, compliance, program, and administrative functions.
  • Promote a culture of customer service, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Organizational Partnership

  • Partner closely with the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Program Administrator, a peer role reporting to the COO, to ensure technology and data systems support compliance, accreditation, critical incident reporting, training, outcomes measurement, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Provide technical support and system administration for the agency's Learning Management System (LMS) in coordination with the QA/QI Program Administrator, who owns training content and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with agency leaders to align technology investments with organizational priorities.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the COO on technology, cybersecurity, reporting, data governance, and system improvement opportunities.

Qualifications

Required
