Job summary

City of Gainesville is seeking a Planning and Development Services Director to oversee the Department of Sustainable Development. This role directs planning, code enforcement, building permitting, real property and special projects.

The director will partner with the City Manager and staff to guide business start-ups and growth, develop strategic plans, manage staff, and ensure alignment with city priorities. Residency in Gainesville and strong leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree required.
• Master degree preferred and may substitute for experience.
• Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience with supervisory/management experience.

Responsibilities

• Directs Planning and Development Services staff and oversees long-range planning, growth management and development review.
• Leads budgeting and financial reporting for the department across multiple funding sources.
• Coordinates with City Commission, other departments, county/state agencies and the University of Florida.
