Director of Special Education

Position: Director of Special Education at the southeastern regional technical high school in Easton, Massachusetts.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field from an accredited college or
  • Certification by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as an Administrator of Special Education.
  • Highly motivated self-starter who can work independently and with minimal

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state statutes, laws, and regulations
  • Prior experience as a Special Education Director in a vocational technical school is
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Job Goals

To organize, implement, and administer a program of special needs services for the District’s students.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Serve as Administrator of Special Education for the southeastern regional school.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Special Education Department instructional and support staff.
  • Organize, administer and coordinate a program of Special Needs Services for southeastern students in cooperation with the Director of Guidance.
  • Coordinate Medicare (MEDICAID).
  • Attend school committee meetings and appropriate subcommittee meetings when required.
Special Education Responsibilities
  • Organize, administer and coordinate Special Education (SPED).
  • Maintain complete and accurate student records in compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations and district policy.
  • Monitor Special Education laws and regulations and recommend required policies.
  • Develop and coordinate an educational assessment program for Special Education.
  • Ensure that Special Education programs conform to all Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regulations.
  • Work in cooperation with the Principal and high school administrators to develop a curriculum to meet the needs of students as defined by M.G.L. Chapter 71B.
  • Coordinate students’ Special Education accommodations for all assessments (e.g., MCAS, SAT, and various industry certifications).
  • Provide and evaluate the effective utilization of equipment and materials used by Special Education.
  • Make appropriate placements for Special Education students.
  • Coordinate scheduling of Special Education services.
  • Plan and provide in‑service programs and orientation sessions for staff members concerning Special Education services in the school as required by law.
  • Develop an annual departmental budget in coordination with the High School.
  • Monitor the departmental budget on an ongoing basis.
  • Write a Special Education Program Plan and secure federal and state grants for Special Education.
  • Organize and implement a Parent Advisory Committee for Special Education.
  • Implement the Special Education component of the Bullying Intervention Plan and behavioral interventions.
Federal Grants
  • Assist in writing grants to improve achievement for southeastern students.
Statistical Information
  • Develop and maintain student information to prepare statistical reports concerning Special Education.
  • Complete all statistical reports requiring Special Education student information for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Remain current with the requirements of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Assist in analyzing MCAS test results.
Personal Professional Development
  • Establish objectives resulting in a continuing program of professional development.
  • Maintain professional renewal through reading, visitations, conference attendance, university programs and professional organizations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Terms of Employment

Full time, full year.

Salary: $154,132 to $180,136 per year.
