Job summary

ITW seeks a Software Development Director to lead Alpine’s software development function, setting vision and driving execution aligned with business and digital transformation goals.

The role guides multiple development teams, establishes engineering best practices, and ensures scalable, high-quality software delivery while partnering with executive leadership and stakeholders to foster innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Senior leadership experience in software development (Director or above).
• Strong technical background with modern software engineering practices.
• Experience leading multiple teams and leaders (Managers/Leads).
• Proven delivery of large-scale, complex software initiatives.
• Experience leading Agile transformations and digital transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the overall software development strategy.
• Lead and mentor Software Development Managers and senior technical leaders.
• Build a high-performing, scalable engineering organization.
• Drive long-term technology roadmaps and innovation initiatives.
• Attract, develop, and retain top software engineering talent.
• Establish leadership pipelines and succession planning.
• Foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
• Coach leaders to manage performance and growth.
• Establish and enforce software development standards, frameworks, and governance.
• Promote best practices in architecture, coding standards, testing, CI/CD, and DevOps.
• Ensure code quality, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Champion continuous improvement and operational excellence.
• Oversee execution of multiple software initiatives; ensure on-time delivery within scope.
• Align development priorities with product strategy and business needs.
• Identify and mitigate risks across projects and portfolios.
• Champion Agile methodologies at scale; drive maturity and continuous delivery.
• Optimize processes for efficiency, transparency and productivity.
• Lead digital transformation initiatives and evaluate new technologies.
• Collaborate with engineering, sales, and product teams to modernize platforms.
