Our client, an investment firm, is seeking a Director of Software Asset Management to join their team in Los Angeles, CA!
The firm's technology team is building for scale. It needs one person to own every tool the firm buys, licenses, and retires. The ideal candidate will run the full tool lifecycle. You will evaluate new tools, onboard the right ones, and kill the redundant ones. You will cut cost without cutting capability. You will report to Technology Strategy and Operations and work across engineering, architecture, security, procurement, and risk. This is not a back-office job. You will set direction and do the work.
Responsibilities
- Build and own the process for evaluating and approving new tools. Every request comes through you. You will score it, test it against the architecture, and make the call.
- Own license strategy. You will know what the firm owns, what it uses, and what it wastes. You will reclaim licenses that sit idle. You will manage audits and true-ups before they become surprises.
- Negotiate with vendors alongside Procurement. You will drive renewals, hold vendors to their commitments, and walk away when the value is not there.
- Set governance for access, usage, and security. You will work with Information Security and Compliance on vendor risk. The firm is regulated. The standards are real.
- Track usage, spend, and adoption for every tool. You will forecast against budget and explain the gaps. You will find the savings and make them happen.
- Partner with Enterprise Architecture to keep the tool stack aligned with the firm's target state. You will keep a clean inventory of every tool, its owner, its entitlements, and its renewal date.
Qualifications
- 8+ years in software asset management, IT asset management, engineering tooling, or technology operations. You have managed an enterprise tool portfolio at scale.
- You came up through engineering or software architecture. You have used DevOps and SDLC tools yourself. You understand source control, CI/CD, artifact management, testing, and observability. You know how they fit together and why engineers fight over them.
- You have run vendor audits and true-ups. You have negotiated contracts and won. You know SAM practice and platforms such as ServiceNow, Flexera, or Snow. You know ITIL, SOX, and ISO/IEC 19770. FinOps experience is a plus.
- You understand security and regulatory requirements in financial services. You read usage data and turn it into budget decisions. You influence people who do not report to you. You get teams to give up tools they no longer need.
- You hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- You think in portfolios and act in details. You are commercial. You weigh cost, value, and risk and make the call quickly. You bring structure to messy processes and follow through. You own your results.
