Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a senior financial leader to oversee accounting, payroll, grants accounting, and financial reporting for the School Division. You will ensure GAAP compliance, strong internal controls, close processes, and coordination of external audits. Competitive benefits and start date in 2026–2027.

Required: bachelor's in business with accounting concentration and five years of public-school financial management; MBA/CPA/CMA preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with Accounting concentration required.
• Minimum five years of relevant accounting and financial management experience.
• Experience supervising professional and paraprofessional staff and coordinating complex public school financial reporting.
• Preferred MBA/MPA and/or CPA or CMA.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and maintenance of sound financial systems and internal controls.
• Prepare and present periodic financial statements and analyses for stakeholders.
• Oversee month-end and year-end close, including reconciliations and entries.
• Oversee payroll and accounts payable operations.
• Coordinate annual independent audit and respond to audit findings.
