Director of Sales / Membership Development (Remote)

Join Volta Foundation, a pioneering nonprofit leading the global battery and energy storage ecosystem. With a network of 75,000 professionals, we foster industry leadership, collaboration, and growth through events, publications, and platforms that unite stakeholders to shape the future.

As Director of Development, you will spearhead membership sales and business growth. Your focus will be expanding our member base by building relationships with industry executives, communicating our value, and closing new memberships. You will also develop partnerships with companies and individuals aligned with our mission, establishing Volta as the central platform for industry collaboration.

This role is ideal for a dynamic sales professional passionate about relationship-building, deal-closing, and organizational growth. It offers high industry visibility and a chance to influence a leading trade association.

The Role

The successful candidate will be a motivated, personable business developer with strong sales instincts and a passion for ecosystem-building. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will contribute to revenue targets and expand Volta’s influence.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage the entire membership sales process—from prospecting to closing.
  2. Build a pipeline of prospective members across the battery ecosystem, including startups, corporates, suppliers, investors, research institutions, and government agencies.
  3. Establish and maintain relationships with key decision-makers (C-suite, strategy, business development, partnerships).
  4. Collaborate with the Executive Director to refine membership offerings and outreach strategies based on member feedback.

Business Development Strategy

  1. Identify new verticals and opportunities for member recruitment.
  2. Create scalable outreach campaigns and materials (pitch decks, emails, collateral) with the Marketing team.
  3. Track outreach and sales performance in Hubspot; report metrics to leadership.

Relationship Management & Stewardship

  1. Serve as a primary contact for prospective members, ensuring smooth onboarding and high engagement.
  2. Work with the Member Success team to ensure long-term partnerships and renewals.
  3. Attend industry events to network, recruit, and represent Volta.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in sales, business development, or partnerships, preferably in B2B, nonprofit, or trade associations.
  • Proven success in achieving sales targets.
  • Strong relationship skills with senior decision-makers across technical and commercial roles.
  • Experience in battery, cleantech, energy, or advanced manufacturing sectors is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and comfortable in a remote environment.

Location

  • Remote, with regular travel for industry events and engagements. Travel can be tailored based on your location and company needs.

Compensation

  • Salary range: $150,000 - $225,000 USD OTC annually.
  • Base salary: $100,000 USD/year.
  • Performance bonuses tied to membership revenue and business development success.
  • Health insurance: 50% of premiums covered for medical, dental, vision.
  • Unlimited PTO to support work-life balance.
