Job summary

CTTRANSIT is seeking a Director of Safety & Training to ensure compliance with safety policies and to lead the development of comprehensive safety and training programs across all divisions. The role requires strategic oversight of safety leadership, program design, and regulatory adherence, with on-call availability for incidents.

The position reports to the AGM of Safety, Security and Technical Training, supervising Safety & Training Superintendents and coordinating with multiple departments

Qualifications

• Minimum possession of a bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Operations, Safety, Management, Business, Public Administration or a closely related field and seven (7) years of relevant work experience is required.
• A minimum of 4 years of leadership experience is required.
• An equivalent combination of education and work experience on a year-for-year basis can be substituted for the 4-year degree requirement.
• Experience in managing employees in a union environment, interviewing, hiring, training, employee development, and managing employee discipline, is required.
• Knowledge of Company policies, procedures, rules, labor agreement provisions, CDL regulations and licensing procedures, FTA drug testing program policies and procedures, employee rights under state and federal law, and of safety and customer service issues related to public transit is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and develop safety and training policies and programs for personnel, equipment, and facilities.
• Provide safety and training leadership to agency staff including safety managers to foster a culture of safety.
• Design and facilitate safety, customer service, managerial, and supervisory training programs and conferences.
• Assess and update training materials and equipment; initiate continuing education for Training Supervisors.
• Manage the safety program, including accident evaluation and improvement interventions.
• Coordinate organizational improvement projects to enhance service delivery and employee morale.
• Lead company-wide safety events and safety recognition programs and participate in CTtransit safety committees.
