Engine is building its Risk function with a Director, Risk to define the risk framework for Engine X, govern first- and second-line operations, and partner with Product and Sales to align risk with business growth.

The role emphasizes translating risk posture into actionable policy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving cross-functional collaboration across Finance, Legal, and Engineering.

Qualifications

• 8-10+ years in risk (credit a must, ideally credit & fraud).
• 3+ years leading teams.
• Direct Product/Engineering partnership experience.

Responsibilities

• Build and own Engine’s risk tolerance framework; define delinquency and fraud targets.
• Establish second-line governance; document required approvals.
• Stand up and run Engine’s Risk Committee; cadence and reporting.
• Govern first-line operations; develop capabilities with Sr. Manager teams.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to translate risk policy into product logic.
• Own the risk appetite conversation with Sales; balance guardrails and growth.
• Collaborate with Legal/Compliance on regulatory obligations (BSA/AML, card issuing).
• Translate risk signals into P&L language for leadership.
• Build risk reporting infrastructure with quarterly delinquency and fraud metrics.
