Job summary

The University of Alaska invites applications for the Director of Research & Development for the Alaska Critical Mineral Accelerator (ACMA) to lead the use-inspired R&D portfolio and coordinate with industry partners and government agencies. Based at the UAF campus, the role requires deep strategic vision and proven leadership in complex collaborations.

Responsibilities include setting long-range research priorities, governance, and translating research into deployment.

Qualifications

• Master of science or higher in engineering, geosciences, metallurgy, mineral processing, chemistry, materials science, environmental science, biotechnology, computer or data science and at least six years in R&D, technology development, or executive leadership.
• PhD is preferred for senior leadership roles.
• Executive leadership experience in mining, critical minerals, or related industrial sectors is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic planning for ACMA's R&D portfolio and investments.
• Align research investments with industry demand, technology translation, and workforce development.
• Build partnerships with industry, universities, national labs, and government agencies to drive deployment and impact.
