About the Role:
As our Director of Quality & Safety, you will lead safety and quality across every Pfister Energy project. You'll set the standards, train the field teams who carry out daily inspections, and make sure the work in the field meets them.
This is a new leadership position. You will build one consistent safety and quality program across all of our projects: common standards, one inspection system, and clear performance data.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety program
- Write and maintain the company safety program, covering fall protection, electrical safety (NFPA 70E), lifting and rigging, excavation and trenching, heat and cold stress, and hazard communication.
- Set the standard for site‑specific safety plans and review each one before mobilization.
- Lead investigation of every recordable injury, serious near miss and property damage event, with a root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain OSHA recordkeeping (300/300A/301 logs), EMR tracking, and workers’ compensation claim coordination with HR and insurance.
- Complete customer and GC safety prequalification forms and audits.
Insurance, inspector and subcontractor compliance
- Manage compliance with our insurance carriers’ safety requirements, including loss control recommendations, carrier site audits and program documentation.
- Attend insurance carrier and broker risk management workshops and bring what you learn back into the safety program.
- Select and manage third‑party safety inspectors: set their scope and visit schedule, review their reports, and make sure findings are closed out.
- Manage subcontractor safety compliance, from prequalification (EMR, OSHA logs, written safety programs) through site orientation, safety plan review, field monitoring and corrective action.
Quality program
- Write and maintain the company's quality plan, including installation standards for racking, roof attachments, modules, conduit, wire management and terminations.
- Build inspection and test plans for each project type, defining which checks happen, who performs them, and the required records.
- Standardize commissioning test records (insulation resistance, IV curves, torque, functional tests) and closeout quality packages.
- Track rework, punch list and warranty callbacks, and lead root cause reviews on repeat defects.
Field inspection program
- Design the checklists that construction and commissioning teams use for daily safety and quality inspections and run them in one system (Procore).
- Define company hold points that require independent sign‑off before work continues. Examples: roof attachments before modules, trench and conduit before backfill, MV terminations before energization.
- Audit a sample of team‑completed inspections every month and visit every active site on a regular rotation.
Training and leadership
- Deliver or arrange OSHA 10/30, fall protection, NFPA 70E, first aid/CPR, and equipment operator training. Maintain training records for all field staff.
- Coach foremen and site supervisors to run effective daily safety meetings and pre‑task hazard reviews.
- Recommend when added field safety or quality staff are needed, based on workload and inspection data.
- Report monthly safety and quality performance to the COO and leadership team.
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years in construction safety, quality or both, including 3+ years leading a multi‑site program
- Electrical, solar or utility construction experience
- CHST, CSP or ASP certification (or CSP within 18 months of hire)
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, OSHA 1926 (including Subpart M fall protection and Subpart K electrical), and the NEC as it applies to PV
- Experience running incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites across the Mid‑Atlantic region
Preferred Qualifications:
- Commercial rooftop and ground‑mount solar EPC experience
- Quality management background (ISO 9001, inspection and test plans, or NABCEP credentials)
- Experience with Procore Inspections and Observations
- Experience managing third‑party inspection firms or subcontractor safety prequalification
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, construction management, engineering or a related field
- OSHA 500 (authorized to teach OSHA 10/30 construction courses)
- Regular work on active construction sites, including commercial rooftops, ground‑mount fields and energized electrical equipment areas
- Outdoor work in all seasons and weather
- Must be able to climb ladders and stair towers, walk uneven terrain, and wear required PPE (fall arrest harness, arc‑rated clothing, hard hat, safety glasses)
- Occasional overnight travel; occasional early, late or weekend site visits around critical work and incident response
- Company vehicle or vehicle allowance
- Matching 401(k)
- Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
- Health Reimbursement Account
- Life, AD&D, Accident, Disability, and Critical Illness Insurance
