Job summary

The Huntsville Ice Sports Center seeks a Director of Program Development to lead growth of the figure skating school, aligning on-ice instruction with business operations to create a premier skating destination in Alabama.

You will standardize curriculum from Learn to Skate through Aspire and competitive tracks, manage staff coaches, budgets, events, and SafeSport compliance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years coaching experience with 2+ years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of 6.0 (CJS) and IJS scoring systems.
• Certifications with PSA and U.S. Figure Skating.
• Bachelor's degree in Sports Management or Business preferred.
• 35 hours weekly for third-party coaching opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and design LTS, Aspire, and competitive tracks; develop theatre on ice and synchronized skating.
• Hire and mentor staff coaches; lead safety, standards, and meetings.
• Coordinate with the school manager on budget, revenue targets, and partnerships.
• Manage master schedule for competitions, shows, and performances.
• Lead sanctioning with USFS/SCHSV, tests, and SafeSport compliance.

The Role

The Director of Program Development is a senior leadership position responsible for the strategic growth, operational excellence, and financial health of our figure skating school. The Director of Program Development will bridge the gap between on-ice technical instruction and off-ice business management to create a premier skating destination in Alabama.

Primary Objectives

• Standardize Curriculum: Oversee a comprehensive path from Learn to Skate (LTS), Aspire to advanced competitive tracks, including parent education.
• Drive Growth: Implement activities that attract new skaters and retain current athletes.
• Operational Excellence: Manage scheduling, staff mentorship, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategy: Oversee and design LTS, Aspire, and competitive tracks; develop Theatre on Ice and Synchronized Skating programs.
• Leadership: Oversee, hire and mentor a team of staff coaches; lead regular safety, standards, and program/activity meetings.
• Business: Coordinate with school manager, the annual budget, revenue targets, and marketing partnerships.
• Events: Oversee and coordinate the master schedule for competitions, spring shows, and holiday performances.
• Compliance: Act as the lead for U.S. Figure Skating/SCHSV sanctioning, testing sessions, and work with club liaison for SafeSport protocols.
